The player that bloodied Fernando’s mouth should have been tossed for that hit. That was textbook lead with the crown of the helmet targeting.

It’s mystifying that they somehow missed that.

I dont think they missed it. But, maybe, on that one. I think they just willfully chose not to harm Miami s chances. But maybe they missed seeing the obvious helmet to chin smash. Maybe.

No way did they miss the hold against Cooper that likely prevented a deep completion or touchdown. The official just decided corruption was the way he wanted to go.

LOL.

...that un sportsman like penalty on Sharpe and company... bullshit call.

Agree on all of the other complaints,  but the unsportsmanlike penalty was for taking his helmet off, and is 100% automatic. Can't do that, ever.

He took his helmet off and ran to the corner of the end zone that was all Miami fans and gestured to them. He got all the way across the end zone before they flagged him.

It is almost always called, they miss it once in awhile. Helmet off is a penalty. Glad we didn't get a safety. 🤣 I didn't think much chance at all that we would but it was closer than need be.

@shooter Yeah, that was a surprising lack of discipline, because that's just an automatic penalty. He also could have easily downed it with more room around the 10, or returned it back a few yards before going down. I wondered if Cig let's the helmet thing slide with the NC and I think he's a senior? Definitely not to the standard. The guy I'd not like to be is Tyrique Tucker if the story about him making a comment about Fletcher's father is true, given the respect CCC has for his Dad. I don't want to believe it, but with what I've seen out of Fletcher and the respect he showed Fernando, it wouldn't surprise me.

I lost my mind when Landino got called for his late hit, considering what they had let slide all game.

Sharpe is a junior... he's coming to back unless something has recently changed.

I think the Fletcher story is BS.  The coach that "verified it" from my understanding deleted the post on Instagram.

@boogie I don't want to believe it either, but just from what I've seen out of Fletcher, and how cool and respectful he was to Mendoza, sure seems it would take something like that to set him off. But who knows, maybe just a nut shot, or punch in the pile. As good as Toney was, I thought Fletcher was their MVP.

@boogie Then I'm guessing at some point, he's going to hear about not taking your helmet off.

The call on Landino was the right one but there were several hits on Mendoza that weren’t called earlier (in addition to the helmet hit, which you couldn’t see in the stadium).

It looked like Tucker went over to talk some shit to them and that it came apart quickly. Several UM linemen went back at Tucker, who kept backing up, so it was clear who initiated it.

My top ones from the game was the Non Targeting call that was the textbook definition of targeting that they use to teach Ref's what is targeting.  While I can understand the field ref's could miss it do to their angles, there is no excuse for the replay booth to have not stopped and reviewed it.  The second one I was surprised was when the defender hit Mendoza low in the knees.  I guess they could argue being blocked into him but still, any other game that probably gets called.  The Cooper late hit out of bounds was the other obvious one that I don't see how you miss.

The first one where they hit Mendoza in the back after he released it I probably wouldn't think too much about until the called the same hit a penalty on Landino and he took fewer steps to hit the QB. Overall, the general comments I was seeing from non-IU accounts were about the lack of calls on Miami so makes the IU victory even that more impressive.

The play went away from Mendoza, so pretty much no one in the stadium knew about that hit, and there was no replay on the screens to show it. We learned about it because people watching on tv texted us. The late hit on Cooper is often called, so it’s not clear why that guy didn’t throw the flag. The jersey grab late on the throw to Cooper was pretty obvious, but there were two receivers and two or three UM DBs in the area, so the ref was likely focused elsewhere.

Miami’s DBs were obviously going to be physical with our receivers until the refs backed them off, and it worked. We did the same with them, and their fans whined about the tight coverage, too.

The penalty stats were on the replay boards for much of the game and well into the second half, neither team had much of anything. Pretty obvious the refs were going to let them play and not have a flag fest.

I don't know Fletcher so don't know what to believe..  But if his interaction with Mendoza was after the Tucker incident, then it could have been someone on the Miami staff telling him to do damage control.

Tucker came all the way across the field and initiated it in front of Miami’s bench. Then Fletcher and most of their O line responded back to Tucker, who backed up pretty quickly since it was suddenly one versus four. Coaches and a couple of players got in the middle pretty quickly and it was over.

No idea what was said, but Fletcher wasn’t one of talkers during the game. Receivers and DBs from both sides were going at it throughout, but Fletcher was mostly quiet.
