Not sure where to put this so I'll leave it here...

I'd start a new topic but for reasons unknown the site won't allow me to but since I wasn't allowed to log on until last week I guess I'll need to just be happy with that...

First: Many thanks to S.J. for your great work over 2025 and now in the new year...

2nd:

I'd like to see more in the media about the makeup of this year (and last years team) compared to
the teams they are facing and the teams they've beaten...

A few outlets have mentioned this in passing (I think the BT network showed a "Stars" graphic but aside from them many still act like they believe that Cignetti just bought himself a Team via the Portal...

The reality is that aside from our WR from Clemson and now Mendoza we have close to zero recruits
that many (if any) other highly thought of programs even offered (even in the Portal)... This reality makes our season even more impressive when, on paper, we should be extraordinarily outmatched in every big game we have played and will play in...

Hopefully some outlet will do a deep dive in this and stop acting like this is an all NIL phenomena...

It's my premise that even without NIL a lot of those just from James Madison would have transferred here just to follow their coaches and the turn around "might" have been a year delayed but still would have occurred...

@76-1 1) Email me about your log in issue.

2) Heck, EJ was an Allen portal transfer. We can look into that angle, but it is played out a bit. Sarratt may have been a 0-star recruit but he was an All-Sun Belt transfer

Oh, I didn't mean for you to do it... Your overall covhas been great...

I'm hoping a national outlet like ESPN or the Big Ten Network just focuses on this aspect of our ascent to national prominence and looks at the
theoretical on paper talent difference in depth...
I get the impression that the general public outside our fanbase actually believes that Coach Cignetti just bought himself a Team versus bringing a diverse group of hungry overachievers (on paper) together and actually building one...

I was triggered (on this topic) by some guy on the SEC network at the Rose Bowl whining about NIL and how it allowed us to compete with Alabama...

Suddenly it's legal to pay players and that entire conference regresses to the mean.

Hope is not optimism, which expects things to turn out well, but something rooted in the conviction that there is good worth working for. - Seamus Heaney, Irish poet and likely Hoosier basketball fan.

Thats what I thought too coming from an SEC guy...

NIL just leveled the recruiting field given that the SEC has been paying players for decades...

@76-1 Not a waste of time at all. I don't know if that's the problem. Maybe try on a desktop if you can.

Interesting. I saw on multiple platforms a comparison of “star” talent that showed Alabama had roughly a 10 to one advantage over us, yet we were the undefeated, top ranked, Big Ten champion and favorite in the game. As the Rose Bowl game progressed, it was emphasized by Fowler and Herbstreit that our supposed lack of talent had been more than offset by our coaching, preparation, teamwork, resiliency and cohesiveness, among other things, and that the score reflected the importance of those attributes over “talent”.

I get the chip on the shoulder view of some fans who are constantly worried about what ESPN or Paul Feinbaum says, but it’s refreshing to see Cignetti instill a culture in our team that has rapidly shifted from lovable underdog to the physical, well-oiled machine that just shows up and methodically kicks butt, no matter the opponent.
