Damn good news
I don't even understand this. Something about this program must be even more awesome than we currently dream it is. Unless they left him a very easy out for a head coach position, why do this now?
Stop trying. None of it makes sense. We live in a simulation, and the current programmer must be an IU fan.I don't even understand this.

IU wants to keep him is why they did it
Haines has no reason not to sign it. Gets more money and if a big time program still wants him, I doubt the buyout would stop them.
Wow! This is great news.

Cig has said he understands his assistants may want to move on, but he's going to make the decision as difficult as possible.

Exactly! JMU paid around $1 mil for their HC, Bob Chesney last season. If Haines is making $3 mil, that drop to $1 mil is a tough pill to swallow. Its also likely a way to entice him to stick around and be the successor to Cig.
Haines is only 40. In a best case scenario, he takes over for Cignetti in 5-6 seasons.
They’re done chasing the impossible legacy of RMK, time to make a new one in football. Dolson is smart to go all in for that reason as well as the enormous revenue & attention football can give you. I’m sure he still wants to make bball a consistent winner, but football is gonna be king at IU…
@oneeyedundertaker Good point. The Cignetti era has thus far exceeded the wildest of expectations, keep nurturing it. Something like this happens once in a lifetime, if you're lucky.
