Mendoza Falling Down

I dont know if this video (tik.tok) link will work but did anyone else notice this during the game?  After Mendozas diving TD, he was on the sideline and EJ gave him a solid congrats tap on the top of his helmet, and Mendoza instantly crumbled to the ground. Some O-Line quickly picked him up and he had no helmet. Coaches were chatting with him briefly.  It looked strange. Anyone else see that?

With all the coverage that game had seems a bit odd it would take this long to surface.

Can anyone verify if this is real footage?

It’s real. I noticed it when I finally watched the broadcast in the airport on Tuesday.

I was surprised the camera cut away so quickly and it was never brought up.

The non-conspiracist in me says he just tripped on something. The conspiracist says homie was concussed from that first head shot on the run.

Seemed a bit odd he already had his helmet off. It certainly looked like he was trying to keep others from hitting his head.

I still can’t quite figure out when his helmet came off. It was on when he went down then off when he popped up.

After posting last I went back to my Hulu to check the tape. The tik tok video posted above is from the ESPN sky cast feed. It’s a LOT shorter view of it on the traditional broadcast.

and from watching it a few times, he looks a little wobbly on the trip back from the end zone.

If that was after "The Run," it's understandable; he was walloped. But I don't think his head really got hit, so I wouldn't think concussion.

I thought he was concussed from the Miami helmet to Mendoza chin shot much earlier in the game. That the officials cough*didnt see*cough.

He looked off for awhile after that chin shot with a bit of a stare going.

Hope hes 100% . He took a shot on the final play and hopped up celebrating so I guess he felt pretty damn good.

I’m having trouble finding the shot I’m looking for, but it would have been the hit he ran through before diving.

this link is from the end zone and decently shows how his head snaps with the hit  it doesn’t look as bad here, but I’m 100% sure there’s a slo-mo video from the IU side of the field showing head contact.  And for the record I’m not insinuating anything dirty (with this one), just noting he took a hell of a hit

There's no way god would let his favorite son get concussed.

That helmet to the chin was a wicked hit.  But the next play he ran the ball for 2-3 yards up the middle.  Now he either had the savvy to demonstrate even hurt he wouldn't backup in the NC game or he wasn't fazed by the hit at all.  Honestly to my way of thinking you couldn't have hurt him with an axe bad enough in that environment that night to stop him.  ATTACK!!!

Hundreds of players over the years have demonstrated the ability to keep playing after a concussion. They used to just do it. Doesnt mean it didnt slow his processing a bit. But yeah, I might be wrong and the uppercut had no effect.

It probably just made him more determined. Big hits all year he shrugged off and often played better.

I once took a hit to the head in HS. I was so disoriented that I was wondering off the field in the wrong direction. My teammates came and got me and took me back to the huddle. I don’t remember much about the rest of that game but apparently I played it out. It was expected if you could still stand up that you play. Things have changed a lot but he could have been pretty messed up and still played it out.

Hes been doing a blitz of national media ever since the game and he looked perfectly fine, I dont think it was a concussion. Probably was still recovering from getting the snot kicked out of him on that run

I got undercut during an open gym, whacked my head and looked up at the lights and wondered where I was.  Then I thought I was at a different gym, but after a few seconds realized it wasn't the one I thought it was and asked no one in particular why we weren't in that one anymore.  I don't remember if I won that game, how many more I played, or driving myself home.  Concussions are crazy.
