the running joke during basketball season was "we're a football school now"
the thing is it's not a joke anymore.......we ARE a football school now.
can't wait for September 5
Reminds me of a spring game many years ago. I was sitting in the stands posting on the old Peegs forum. Coach Wilson saw me and gave me a lot of hell for doing that. I think he must have thought I was spying for another team or something. He just kept coming back to yell at me. Of course this was before I knew about UM and their methods. He must have known something.
Coach Wilson often concentrated on the wrong things.
@myteamisonthefloor I will always like coach Wilson. That’s the first time our program was consistently competitive. We couldn’t hang with the best, but Wilson did a good job. He is also a good sport and had no hard feelings about us firing him, he was openly rooting for us despite coaching for another playoff team this year. We were steaming pile of poop before him. He made us a respectable borderline bowl team.
Unofficial (let me stress that) stats from last night:

I thought the broadcast last night was a bit of a snoozer. LOL
Must be because the first spring game under Coach Cig was all new. And seeing it look organized and coached was also new.
On the plus side, I won't be as worried if Grant Wilson gets forced into action. Or even Cherry. Grant looked capable. A veteran.
,
Does anyone have any takeaways from the TEs?
I wasn’t as tuned into their blocking. But there were some drops. They generally looked athletic and comfortable when flexed out a bit. Don’t strike me as physically developed as Horton or Nowakowski, but they’re young.
I think we’re going to find out who wants to stick their nose in and block. Because as effective as our past 2 TE1s have been when needed in the pass game, we’re a running team and being able to block is job one.
I thought Barker looked physical. Reminded me a bit of Nowakoswki. I thought he was first out there which if so would likely mean he's leading the way.
Thiry was slimmer, looked somewhat athletic on the leap for the throw over his head. When Schott's healthy he should be in the mix, also a red-shirt guy so should be ready to compete.
We're young there but should be in good shape because of recruited talent.
Cig and Co. will work to get that sort of pass cleaned up. It's a ghost of his former TCU self where he HAD to make that play because no one else on the team could. The coaches will watch the film with him and tell him to chill the fuck out. "You now have one of the best offensive lines and RB groups in the country Josh. And one of the best defenses. Hand the ball off there or run it in yourself. Or throw it away. Chill the fuck out." Lol.Hoover has been pretty good so far. Little concerned on that last redzone throw, thats one we would have got with Rourke or Mendoza IMO. His throws when not pressured have been some of the best Ive seen a IU QB throw, just needs to relax on the internal clock under pressure
Any positive takeaways from the 2 and 3 deep O-lineman that got snaps?
I thought the run blocking looked pretty darn good 95% of the time.
@tammany They need to catch the ball, but when Barker did, he looked very smooth running after the catch. They need to be developed more, but the talent is there.
@middawg the positives are your depth pieces went up and are going up agaimst a very good defensive line.
@thehoosierhuddle TE group was pretty disappointing to see. I thought they struggled to get any separation on their routes, didnt win the 50/50 balls, and in the run game they were just alright. They are young and they will improve. Barker was a tank after the catch which is always good to see from a TE
OL depth was very impressive. They held up against a formidable defensive front
@hoosierdaddy I was just happy they had more than 2 guys dressed
