Late Game Ints

Something I haven't seen talked about is the pick 6's at the end of both the Oregon and PSU games. Please tell me I'm not the only one that notices the issue on those plays.

Watch them both back. On both plays, EJ Williams was the WR. On both plays they were out routes. In the Oregon game, EJ's angle was such that he was still leaking up the field and not toward the sideline. That gave the DB an easy pick.  In the PSU game the throw was to the wide side, which makes the throw angle/window even tighter, yet EJ stayed flat and didn't alter his route even slightly to help make a play on the ball.

In both instances, the DBs took the correct routes that EJ should've. Yes, you run your route but once the ball is in flight, you adjust to meet the ball at the earliest point you can. If not, the DB can instead.  Sarratt and Cooper are natural in that respect but it feels like its something missing for EJ....at least in those 2 plays. Mendoza has received 100% of the blame on both plays, and I know throwing all the way across the field to that route is frowned upon for this reason but I wish I could be in the film.room.when those are being discussed.  I hope that gets cleaned up. Its the only reason Oregon and PSU games were even close.

There was no Pick6 in the Penn State game. And my recollection without going back and looking is that in both cases Mendoza Head people in his face. I know for the Oregon game. He was falling backwards when he threw it and it was late. I think he had someone in his face on Saturday as well, which was pretty much the case most of the second half

@gros-louis Right.  But watch the plays and see the difference in attacking the throw vs running the route.
