This was just posted on YouTube within the last couple hours. Cignetti didn’t directly address the coaching rumors but reiterated what he has said previously about liking Dolson and Whitten, the need to continually invest in facilities and NIL, and that Bloomington is a great place.
Mark Cuban is a $6 billion dollar guy. He is close with Dolson and threw all his commitment to IU and Scott after the CFP last year. It won’t come down to cash. Yes, Cignetti is from Pennsylvania but my understanding is that the family are all big Pitt people originally and he doesn’t have a particular liking for PSU. My bets are on Matt Campbell, Rhule or Dillingham.
Pat Kraft, ex-IU player, is the AD at Penn State. He was with Rhule at Temple but if he goes after Cignetti from his own alma mater….he’ll be burned in effigy. I don’t see them going after a 64 year old coach. Will likely be a guy in his late 40s or mid 50s.
What a time to be alive, when IU's FOOTBALL coach is like #1 on everybody's coach wish list!
Honestly though, after some of the interviews from last year, I think Mrs. Cig would toss him AND his old chair out the window if they moved again!
I will say that Dolson needs to get his ass in gear upgrading facilities. There haven’t even been any renderings released. Cignetti needs physical upgrades ASAP because those things take awhile to build.
IU is still suffering the consequences of underinvestment and lack of a football only facility. They have always been cheap when it comes to facilities.
The school was caught off guard by Cignetti’s success and seems to be scrambling to keep up.
@big-red-cb-v-2-0 Yeah, the Pennsylvania connection is overblown, I think. The whole situation is tantamount to saying a potential IU coach (in any sport) "has Indiana ties" ... when he (or she) attended Purdue. "Experts" can't seem to distinguish between someone having ties to a state ... and someone having ties to a school. I'm not a coach, but I live in Illinois yet wouldn't accept a job at the University to Illinois if my life depended on it.
Anyhow, I'm sure Matt Rhule will do well at PSU, just like Franklin will do well at UF or FSU.
Side note: Rhule is 2-23 vs. ranked opponents. Seems like a perfect fit in State College.

@iugradman dolson recently did an interview with Rhett Lewis where he said immediately following the Oregon game he had a conversation with Cig on the way home to make sure the athletic department isn’t getting complacent. He didn’t go into any specifics of what they talked about, but based on how much effort they put in on Sunday and Monday it sounds like they are working on something big. Whatever can be done will be done. They aren’t just going to sit back and let all the momentum that’s been built up go without a fight.

Dolson should have done that months ago, not after a big win. Crucial time has been wasted.

If I'm Scott Dolson and feeling spicy, I send Pat Kraft a personal memo/donation request for 5 million from the Varsity Club to up his continued support of his alma maters Indiana Football program.
How do you know they haven’t? He never said they just now started working on it, but the Oregon game obviously opened up more opportunities we may not have had before and it sounds like they are doing all they can to take advantage of that. Everyone has been in a wait and see mode with IU and I’m sure it’s been that way with big donors as well. Now that we have validated our legitimacy as a contender it is only logical that it opens up more doors that may have only been ajar prior. Trust in this administration. They are the reason we are enjoying this ride.@iugradman dolson recently did an interview with Rhett Lewis where he said immediately following the Oregon game he had a conversation with Cig on the way home to make sure the athletic department isn’t getting complacent. Why are you always so negative?
Pat Fitzgerald is still bumping around out there. Imagine what he could do with those resources. Personally think he's a great fit.
Hope is not optimism, which expects things to turn out well, but something rooted in the conviction that there is good worth working for. - Seamus Heaney, Irish poet and likely Hoosier basketball fan.

now wait a minute. Just because you have not seen anything like renderings does not mean they are not working on it and that they have not been working on it for some time now. We will see it when they are ready to announce it and they won’t do that during this kind of a run. My guess would be that they announce whatever they are going to do at the end of the season.I will say that Dolson needs to get his ass in gear upgrading facilities. Dylan Sinn of the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette made a good point that Cignetti is a climber. He went from Elon to JMU and both schools were in the same conference at the time. JMU was the big dog in the CAA much like Penn State is in the Big Ten.
Dolson better be raising a ton of money right now.
