Of course schools can buy away recruits. It happens everywhere. All P4 schools have enough money to get aggressive with a player if they want to.
IU has top-10 or darn close to it roster budget now. It’s hard to worry much about money.
But just because we have $ doesn’t mean we should get into bidding wars and overpay, especially for high school kids. We still have to spend smart and not surprisingly this staff seems very disciplined on that front.
I am very surprised this doesn't happen a lot more. Cig alluded to it getting crazier and crazier with the tampering. In negotiations the old saying is the first one to give a number, loses. So once recruits have our number, many other schools are likely trying to see if going just bit over that will work. Eventually you have to say 'OK, see ya, good luck'.
@openwheel There is no point in overpaying for a high school kid when you can use that money in the portal to get someone who can impact the team right away. If you're paying a 4-start recruit the same as someone like Roman Hemby or Fernando Mendoza, it's a waste.
Eventually it balances out, and portal guys are too overpriced compared to young guys. But so far it works for Cig.
There was Twitter chatter that daddy was doing visits for him??? Not WITH him, but FOR him?
And Cig wont kiss his ass? I believe that. There was Twitter chatter that daddy was doing visits for him??? Not WITH him, but FOR him?
And as Sammy said above. Red flag. Cig wouldve viewed that as a red flag. He wants kids who are ready to man up.
