I cannot wait to see Hoover in our offense.
Yeah, at the time I was mad and felt exactly that. I am back to should have been a pf flag, but not the kind you get tossed for.@openwheel I thought the Curry hit was late because Mendoza was out in space and it was very clear that Curry saw him release the ball before he initiated contact. It wasn’t in the pocket where he was just brawling to get to the QB and timed it poorly. He released it and Curry saw it plain as day before lower his shoulder. Have I seen worse? Sure, but I thought the intent was clear to throw that flag.
I'm just trying to mellow..
. If they were consistent and allowed one step, blam, then I would say no flag. But they aren't consistent, we would get called for those all the time. He had time to make an attempt to miss, instead he accelerated, you are correct.
How good can the 2026 team be? Are a conference championship and playoff berth realistic achievements?
If Hoover plays at a level somewhere between Rourke and Mendoza, this team will challenge for another national championship.
I actually think Hoover is more accomplished than Rourke and Mendoza were before coming to IU.
Rourke won and put up good numbers but at a lower level. Mendoza had a losing record starter and never threw for more than 16 TDs in a season. Hoover is 19-12 as a starter at the P4 level and put up big numbers. He is the nation’s leading returning passer.
True but he was talking about how he plays at IU. It will be hard to top Heismandoza as far as accomplishments.
As you said, there's every reason to believe he can be in the same conversation based on how well he stacks up with their pre-IU careers.
@hurryinghoosiers if he plays somewhere between Mendoza and Rourke he my be a Heisman Finalist. Rourke finished 9th in the voting in 2024, so split the difference and he’s 4.5.
My Mendoza Hoover thoughts recognize the obvious 5" difference in height. What adjustments are made prior to Spring Camp and Fall Camp to neutralize any advantage it gives the DL being faced? Every QB gets a few swatted or tipped which includes FM. Tino and Cignetti will make him a better QB but can't make him grow any inches.
@hoosier-clarion Hoover is 6'2" IU put the wrong height in and changed it.
He has a quick release. That should also help mitigate batted balls. A bit harder for the defense to time IMO.
Could someone explain the rule basis for the no call on Curry’s hit on Mendoza early in B1G championship game, the helmet to chin hit on Mendoza early in the NATTY, and Landino’s hit late in the NATTY?
I think that the Curry and Landino hits were legit. No question the chin shot was a penalty and should have been a targeting call.
As for Landino, as I said it was legit, the real question is why was it the only one called all game???. There were several late, out of bounds, hits not called GoHoosiers
My question is on linebackers:
Looks like 2 obvious starters return.
1.) who is likely to be the 3rd?
2.) Of the incoming crop of LB recruits, who looks like someone who may get playing time within a couple years?

It'll be something we watch in spring ball, but I would put Kaiden Turner in that third LB role right now.
As far as the youngsters. All three have a ton of potential. I think Ja'dyn Williams will see the field in 2026
I think the scheme of playing 3 LBs most of the time was a change Haines made to get Jones on the field more. It was used the year before but not nearly as much. They will still want that package in but if you don’t have a playmaker like Jones available it will not be as featured. My question is on linebackers:
