The Tyler Cherry thing seems like a big deal. Wonder what's happening there.
Oh-oh, an error by the staff? Is Cig slipping? Fight complacency!

I was joking of course. But the Cherry saga is interesting. Thanks for the write up.@openwheel my original source may be incorrect
I have long failed to understand how people thought a kid who was hurt so badly that he was going to miss the season, and then was taken off of the roster completely, was somehow going to be our #2 QB the following year (before Grant Wilson's return was announced). I feel like if this kid weren't from Center Grove, this wouldn't even be in the conversation. The Tyler Cherry thing seems like a big deal. Wonder what's happening there.
For one thing, getting any 4-star recruit, especially a QB, used to be a really big deal. So we hope against hope they pan out, since they are uncommon. Maybe not anymore... but many of us still have the mindset.
Another, no one has said much about the injury? At his age and with modern medicine, it seems very reasonable to be not ready for the past season yet be 100% by this spring, and be older, stronger, smarter.
If he is ever coming back, seems like he'd be ready by now. If he's not ready to compete then either he's a bit of a bust as a 4 star, or the injury may not be anything that can be overcome. What is the injury? I assumed or thought I heard it was knee?

So apparently he is back, which wasn't really where my doubts stood, I guess it remains to be seen where he is on the depth chart next year. Just having a hard time thinking it would be 2nd.

Tyler Cherry is back on the roster.
@gros-louis I had this yesterday and got scared off into deleting it. He will go into spring battling for the backup role with Grant Wilson. It was hard to believe IU was going into 2026 with just 3 scholarship quarterbacks. A lot, and I mean a lot, will depend on if Cherry has physically recovered from this injury. If he has, I think he's QB 2 this year, which a shot to start next year. Also he got the year back and is a redshirt freshman this year.
I see he took his #15 back. Pretty cool of him to let some guy named Fernando Mendoza borrow it for a year.
