I dislike this possible playoff bracket

Nobody is playing better football right now than Notre Dame. If this bracket comes to fruition, the #1 seed (OSU/IU) could see themselves facing Notre Dame in their opening game while Georgia, a potential #4 seed, would get to open against the Texas Tech/Tulane winner.

If it were up to Vegas Notre Dame would be a #4 seed. Of course, they can't be a top-4 seed because they don't play in a conference. If the playoffs were being seeded today I believe Notre Dame should be #5, not Taco Tech.

Sorry. The NYT screenshot came out blurry. I hope this Fox Sports screenshot is better.

Ok. I'm guessing the blurry screenshots are a result of this forum's software.

Notre Dame is very beatable, beating up a bunch of terrible ACC teams is not impressive. Im pretty sure you could drop 3 or 4 AAC teams into the ACC this year and they would be legitimate contenders for their conference title

I would prefer the Alabama / Ole Miss side of the bracket though - IU hasnt played a SEC team yet since Cig took over, and schools in that conference talk more nonsense than anyone else.

End of day dont really mind who it is, but would prefer to get a fresh match. It would be pretty boring to get a rematch with Oregon/OSU outside of the title game

Its also possible (but very unlikely) Stanford pulls an upset. They have been playing better in recent weeks, and the kickoff for their game will be close to 1am body clock for Notre Dame

That was last year. They switched to straight seeds this year, so ND can theoretically be a top 4 seed. They won’t be unless some seriously wild things happen across college football with upsets the next few weeks.

For clarity, the rule last year was the top 5 seeds were the 5 highest ranked conference champs so NDs best possible seed was 6. That made the bracket funky last year and they switched to straight seeds this year.

Miami has to win and have almost all the top acc teams lose for them to get the championship bid.  This bracket really doesn't work.

With that said, personally, I'd love the matchups for IU.  I don't think there's a team in America that our group can't play with.

Ah yes. Thankfully they changed that rule. Boise State got a bye last year, right? Hilarious.

Correct.  Boise State & Arizona State got 1st round byes despite being ranked 9th & 12th.  Clemson (16th) was the 5th conference champ and came in as the 12 seed (which they would this year too in that scenario).

It ended up making a goofy bracket where 5-seed Texas made it to the semi-final beating #16 & #12 to face Ohio State.

6-seed Penn St. had to go through #10 SMU & #9 Boise State.

7-seed Notre Dame had to play #8 IU & #2 Georgia.

8-seed Ohio State had #7 Tennessee & #1 Oregon.

If last year's seeding format would have been like this year, the first round games would have been:

#9 Boise St. @ #8 Indiana -- winner vs. #1 Oregon

#10 SMU @ #7 Tennessee -- winner vs. #2 Georgia

#12 Arizona St. @ #6 Ohio St. -- winner vs. #3 Texas

#16 Clemson @ #5 Notre Dame -- winner vs #4 Penn St.

What a topsy turvy world we are living in. My preferred path for IU is an SEC team, ND and OSU. And, the Buckeye is complaining about having to play ND!

I’d rather play Notre dame than Oregon again. NDs best win is against USC who is the 4th best team in the B1G at best and would probably lose to Penn State when they are playing their best football. The way they dominated Syracuse is impressive, but let’s keep in mind Syracuse is not a good team. ND put up 21 points before the offense even took the field. That was just a horrendous performance by SYR. Pitt would be their second best win and I think Pitt is comparable to ILL (capable of playing good or bad on any given Saturday). Plus, I like the idea of having the revenge factor to avenge last year’s cfp loss. My hope for the cfp is that both Oregon and OSU play each other on the same side of the bracket before either are matched with IU again.

If the current bracket holds or doesnt change too much in the top 6, I think its a good chance the B1G has teams in 3/4 semi final spots and the both of the title slots. Obviously I hope we win, but if we dont I hope Oregon does - 3 different B1G teams in 3 years would reset the narrative of top conference.

Our conference gets treated ridiculously in the rankings (AP, coaches, CFP). How is Washington not ranked? I dont think there is even much of an argument for 18-25 to be ranked ahead of Wash outside of SMU.

I thought the committee said they were going to be use metrics as part of the ranking process, but its pretty evident they dont. There are 8 B1G teams in the top 22 of FPI, and only 5 ranked B1G teams

I don't mind playing Notre Dame but the seeding seems off to me in that bracket.
