Based on what Im seeing, I think we finish in that 10-15 range. I think the average recruit rating will be much higher than what we are used to seeing, but unless we land Monshun Sales and Raylaun Henry its going to be hard to crack the top 10 points wise. Outside of the top ~5-6 classes, there isnt much of a difference between ~7-15 anyways. The drop off from the top 15 and everyone else is typically pretty big

I hope we spread the wealth and Coach reels in a ton of 'almost big time ' (read, well down in price from the big name media favorites, but still high level) guys that have the frame and athletic ability to put on muscle, be coached up, and be terrors in the future.

I trust Coach and staff on that. So far, they show they have a good eye.

The way this staff evaluates players I’m not concerned with rankings. Matter of fact I’m in the camp (in the future)that if Cig recruits a kid they will go up in the rankings. Kidding not kidding.

I don't know much about recruiting rankings, but it seems top-20 would be great.  The staff is strong with scouting, but that sort of overall ranking probably means more size and athleticism coming in than previous years.

I'm o.k. with him spending more money and resources the next year or two poaching the the players he thinks will best fit from places going through coaching changes like Penn State, Florida, Florida State, Ole Miss maybe if Kiffin leaves, Clemson maybe, Texas maybe, etc...

He's won bigly with mostly transfers thus far.  I'd be fine with HS classes in the 20-30 range, but very, very strong portal classes, for the next couple years.

Yeah the portal makes the recruiting class less vital. Still very important but gives margin for error and ability to recruit kids that can be groomed over a 5 year period.  5 star kids hit the field the day the land on campus.  Those are great but not the only way to build a successful program now that the portal exists.
that said , his ability to land higher rated players goes up with each win. Keep winning your average star rating goes up. But I think to ultimately stay on top of the mountain he will need some 5 star players in the fold

With each win, with each unprecedented, original, confidence driven media comment........... Top recruits start "recruiting" themselves to IU.

"please take me". We are close to having this happen, if it isn't already.

If men were any more stupid, we would have breed for the extinction of women. Proof yet again that WE are the best thing they have going for them.

I don't know about top 10 class, but we're definitely going to be very competitive on the recruiting trail.

I don't think it really matters though.   Cig is going to recruit whoever he feels can help the team, whether that player has no stars or 5 behind their name. Cig doesn't care about that stuff.

Just my guess, based on the kids we're targeting,  top 15 doesn't seem crazy to me.

We have to look at things in context, so let me ask a question: Would you rather have Cig with a 20th-ranked class or Sark with a 2nd-ranked class?

I think we know which recruiting class would develop better, regardless of ranking.

I'm going to start a thread going into the next bye week discussing the portal and all the CFB head coaching turnover benefiting IU in years 3 and 4 for Cignetti.

I do believe these next couple of HS recruiting classes will fuel the greatness we expect to have in years 5 and 6 for the Hoosiers as the momentum keeps on increasing.

@middawg Good idea. Cig talked about recruiting and the portal on Monday. He's not a fan of the Portal window or the no spring window.

no doubt the coach matters.  I don't know what Saban's initial recruiting class was or what he inherited.  I doubt it was top 5.  Couple a coach with top 5 classes and you have the dynasty that Alabama has been the last 12-15 years.  Cig could do that.

I saw a hot take on TikTok the other day in the comments stating that “Cig just takes portal players and has no development of his players.”

I responded that this was a terrible opinion as Cig has brought in guys from Kent State and other G5 and lower P4 programs and has developed them to their highest levels.  He also has kids in recruiting classes where he just continues to elevate them to P4 level contributors, kids that were lightly recruited like Landino or Hardy or “Bones” Jones and has them playing excellent football.  It’s not like we’ve portalled a bunch of kids from Georgia or Alabama.  It’s a testament actually to his development in that he has taken kids that weren’t on anyone’s radar and has them playing high level P4 ball.
