This is embarrassing and a waste of time, effort, and money.
ND and BYU would be so much better.
@ribbont Yeh, I bet this makes them change their minds on the format again this summer.
If they are going to continue to have the G5 teams in the CFP, then reward the #1 seed by playing the winner of the 2 G5 teams.
@gr8iufan - By doing that,.you're saying they should guarantee a G5 team in the quarterfinals?

ND would lose to Penn State.
See what I did there? Its called speculation. Which is why they have it correct in the current format instead of guessing who is good (which is what they did for 100 years).
ND simply needs to join a conference. They've really dug their own hole.
BYU had a chance and lost twice to TTU, which made their ommission pretty easy.
Another point to make is that A&M got totally stopped at home by a team that didn't finish top 2 in the ACC. A&M was a top 5 team most of the season.
@tr32 Whatever. It's statistical analysis. These 2 teams had a 7% chance of winning while ND had a 30+% chance at Oregon or Ole Miss.
Yes, ND should join a conference.
Yes, BYU had chances.
But my point was JMU, Tulane, nor any G6 should ever be included in the playoffs. They are like the 17 seed vs 1 in basketball, and there ain't no Purdue in the football playoffs.
@tr32 And it was an enjoyable, competitive game because Miami is from a P4 conference and plays against real competition. If Tulane or JMU played at A&M, it's a blowout.

@gros-louis - You can't avoid possible blowouts. I think people are looking to avoid the guarantee of blowouts.
Of course they should. JMU and Tulane won their conferences and had 2 or fewer losses. There are only 8 conferences. The only conference champs who didnt make the playoffs had more than 2 losses.
ND gave up 30 points to Purdue and lost to the best 2 teams they played. The only good wins were vs USC, Pitt and Navy, none of whom were in conference championship games or in the playoffs.
12 teams that deserve to be in the playoffs based on records and championships were in. You can't speculate about who might be good.
BYU fell victim to being beaten badly twice by TTU. If TTU is just THAT good, we will find out soon. Big12 had a clear hierarch.
