\@jackskip23 - No, its the opposite. The prime example is Ohio State. The deep passes to Becker were on 3rd downs. The run game was stagnant, so we threw deep to get first downs and open up the field a bit. That was the entire point of my post, Ordfan.
No, you have it backwards. We want to run the ball first and foremost. We don’t throw to set up the run. That’s not Cignetti and Shanahan’s plan, and never has been. Third down passes down the field don’t change that.
@jackskip23 - OK, you agree with me then. We run and only throw deep to open up the run. I knew you'd come around.

Bama’s gonna go up tempo as much as they can to keep IU’s D on the field & limit pre-snap looks. I do worry about our fatigue if we can’t get them off the field consistently.
As for weather …
Last I saw, rain in morning, with some afternoon showers. If that holds, weather likely won’t be an issue - but field could get sloppy. Anyone know how the Rose Bowl does with drainage since it rarely rains ??
3. Haven't really seen any trick plays this season. It would be sweet to see a 5 wide set where we insert Ponds as WR5 against a LB or a nickel CB where he runs a fly route and Mendoza lets it fly to him.
How about our first glimpse of the chapter of the IU Offensive playbook devoted to our Swiss army knife D'Angelo Ponds?
