I think Kiffin stays at Ole Miss.  I could see Lanning wanting to come back to SEC land, and taking the LSU job.  I could also see them going after Joe Brady.  If its neither of those guys... hmmm... I'm sure they're going to be big game hunting, so not sure.  They should strongly consider Sumrall from Tulane.  But I'm sure they won't.

I would say both Lanning and Brady could be candidates for Florida, as well.  But I don't think Florida would pull Lanning away from Oregon, like LSU might.  Joe Brady, recruiting Florida speed to the swamp, could be a perfect fit.  No clue if he's considering college head coaching jobs or not.  He might be on track for an NFL job.  Similar to LSU, not sure who'd be a candidate after those 2.  Jedd Fisch maybe?  He's a Florida Alum, but he hasn't really been overly successful in college yet.

If Lanning moves to LSU, that will create a domino.  Sumrall at Tulane will probably get some P4 looks.  Memphis coach probably will as well.  Brian Kelly will get hired somewhere...keep an eye on Oklahoma State for him maybe?

Penn State??  Maybe Hartline?  Maybe he and Knowles like each other, and really worked well together last year?  Joe Brady has a masters degree from Penn State, but he grew up in Florida, and made a name for himself down at LSU.  But Buffalo to Happy Valley is a fairly natural geographic move.

Brady currently works for the Pegula family (owners) and they have deep ties at Penn State.  Something to monitor. But I think Penn State hires Chesney.

Lanning turned down Bama.  Maybe he didn’t want to follow the GOAT, but I doubt he would be afraid of that.  Given that fact I don’t think he takes LSU and definitely not Florida.  I’d guess he stays put at Oregon for a while. If he just can’t get it done in the northwest maybe he moves for a tier 1 job in five years or tries the NFL.

Two names I've seen floated out there for jobs...

Brian Hartline and PSU seems to have some buzz.

Virginia Tech and Franklin seem to be a real thing and probably will happen.  That's a good spot for him, I think.

That would be a rapid rise for Hartline.  OC promotion this year and PSU HC next year.  Just an observation, people in Columbus really like him and he can recruit, so I could see him impressing Pat.

@gros-louis Take this for what it is worth but Penn State insiders at 247Sports have the following leading the way in the PSU search: Mike Elko (but timing with the playoff makes it very difficult to hire him), Jeff Brohm (particularly if Louisville does not make the playoff), Brian Hartline. Guys like Manny Diaz as a "fallback" option. Chesney is acknowledged as a good coach by them but not considered ready for the step up to PSU yet.

I don't have really any feel on how that one is going to play out.

Could PSU really pull Elko from TAMU?  Looks like a lateral at best.

Brohm is very interesting.  If he believes he can’t make the playoff and compete in the playoff at UL/the ACC… he is a heck of a coach I would not want at PSU.  Send that guy south.

@hoosierdaddy Looks like the powers-that-be in State College overestimated the allure of Penn State; they couldn't even poach Nebraska's HC.

@boogie Franklin and Wisconsin would be a perfect marriage.

UCLA - why not Tim Skipper? With the amount of time he had to work with he has done a great job so far aside from the dismantling at IU which I don’t think you can blame him for. If ucla doesn’t hire him I wouldn’t be surprised to see another school take a shot a hiring Skipper.

MD - on one hand I agree that they probably need to move on from Locksley, but on the other hand you look at their young talent and some of the players they have committed and it’s hard not to see a bright future for them even if his coaching acumen isn’t elite. What happens if they fire Locksley and all those players leave or decommit? I would only move on from Locksley if you can get a James Franklin. Maybe Bob Chesney could keep it together too, but I think Locksley is another year or two away from getting fired. I don’t see any sure fire hires that can keep all the young talent on that team.

@gthomas I think Franklin needs to get out of the two big conferences and rebuild his image again.

@olympian97 With regards to Locksley... it seems like that's been the narrative in Maryland for a number of years now.  Close...young...talent always seems to be coming in next year...  If I'm them, and I can get the JMU guy, or another smaller college winner, to make the jump up to the B10...I probably make the move on Locksley and do that.  So if the PSU, Va Tech, LSU, Florida, OK State, etc... hires go by without many of the JMU, Tulane, Memphis, type coaches off the board.  Look for Maryland to fire Locksley...just a guess.

I think he gets another year, especially if they get to 6-6.

That is ABSOLUTELY a fair point!

Watching the Dodgers try to hit Tues-Wed was painful
