I once saw how ridiculously lucrative an NFL coaches pension was after 15 years of coaching service.
That's why you get so many retreads in the league and why just matching on compensation isn't enough.
I don’t want to lose Whitmer but would Tino be available again if he did?
So Whitmer wants to be in the NFL but decided Atlanta was a bust of a franchise and he needed out? LOL Atlanta also figured part of it out and moved on from Raheem Morris.
Whitmer was the coach I expected to leave the most (didn’t see S&C staff leaving)
Whitmer is an NFL guy, he jumped from college to NFL as soon as possible in his career. He just coached the Heisman, he will have plenty of options. Cig finding a capable QB coach is also a given, we will be fine there if Whitmer does decide to go back to the pros
Too bad though. Coach Cig seemed to appreciate some new ideas, mentioned it a couple times.
,
@hoosierdaddy Cig has always had great QBs, with different QB coaches. I think he is probably more assertive, comfortable and active in coaching QBs. Sucks to lose anyone, but this is one of the most likely and probably least likely to disrupt. You win a NC, you're going to lose some staff.
The price of success. In a few years, you'll be hearing a lot more 'Cignetti tree' chatter.
I figured Whitmer would go to LV with Fernando. Cig already has shown he can replace good coaches with other good coaches. We'll keep any eye out
@hoosier-nati …..Tino has to be kicking himself for leaving…..went to UCLA and they tanked….IU goes 16-0 and wins a natty!
@thenickeldimer yah, it’s hard not to take the step up the coaching tree ladder but who couldn’t see the Deshaun Foster ship sinking? That was an abject disaster from the opening press conference.
If I were in trouble, I'd call Chandler Whitmer & Associates. Perfect name for a law firm.
Sorry for being late. Confirmed with a source that report.
No surprise here.
