AN UPDATE ON THE IU FOOTBALL COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP CELEBRATION

The Indiana Football College Football Playoff National Championship celebration, scheduled for 1–1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24, at IU’s Memorial Stadium, will proceed as planned.

Consistent with all IU Football events, IU Athletics is consulting regularly with its meteorologist and is aware of the below-average temperatures predicted for Saturday. In making this decision, we considered that this weekend’s predicted snowfall is not expected until Saturday evening through Sunday, well after the conclusion of the event.

By keeping the celebration at the stadium rather than moving it indoors, we aim to minimize the total time attendees are exposed to the elements. If the event was moved to Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, we anticipate fans would spend multiple hours standing in lines to secure entry.

Additionally, we want Hoosier fans to have the opportunity to see and hear from as many members of the championship team as possible. If the celebration was delayed, many players would likely be unable to attend as they would no longer be in Bloomington.

In light of the cold temperatures, fans are encouraged to dress warmly and remain in their vehicles until close to the 1 p.m. start time. Should the weather forecast dramatically worsen, we will provide further updates as necessary.

@tjinman1987 - I agree with this logic.  Mendoza is touring the countries national TV shows, guys are ready to get to their next steps for NFL training, mid-day tomorrow feels like the only viable opportunity for this type of event.  I imagine there will be a ring/banner ceremony this fall as well.   Which makes me think......I hope they do something sort of like OSU did in Memorial Stadium to show off the national championships...Its good to remind recruits, fans and the TV audience.

@tammany - There are options and I surmise they can always build something that allows it.  I would make sure its posted on the outside and glows at night.  Same with the inside.  Lots of canvas space though, I imagine.  On the open faces of the walls.  Maybe best is either on the press box or directly behind the uprights.  That or build something above the scoreboard to house it.

Serenity Now!

Was involved in the Sign Industry for roughly 35 years.  My Father actually sold the first electronic scoreboard and signage for Notre Dame Stadium in the early 70's.

One would never put up a banner in exterior outdoor conditions to memorialize this National Championship.

It will be something much much  grander.

Think of the signage as you approach the stadium at the intersection of 45 and Dunn but up high visible to everyone inside the Stadium.

Make it impressive and intimidating would be my advice.

Ha.  I agree with you.  I only said banner because that's what Michigan appears to have put up.  I did say "whatever it ends up being."

I'd like something in the SEZ.  Could be two separate signages, one visible from the inside and one from the outside (for everyone driving by on 17th).

Anyways, I'm looking forward to whatever it is.

Saw some comments on Facebook that suggests IU is expecting maybe 40k to attend.  We’re planning on going, be interesting to see how it turns out.  The Assembly Hall suggestions are driving me nuts, that would automatically cut attendance by more than half.

I dont think anyone intended banner to be literally a cloth banner. What  Ohio State has is a prime example.

Looks more like 10-15K from what I see on TV.
