Here is my solution to the cfp logjam to appease the Miami, Texas, and Vandy fans that are crying about being left out.
- top 8 ranked teams play as normal with first round bye for top 4 and 5-8 still get 1st round home games.
- Schedule an 8 team play in over 4 games next weekend 12/12 & 12/13. Assuming the Big 12 winner falls in the top 8 the matchups would be as follows:
- #9 ranked team plays 5th highest ranked conference champ for rights to 9 seed
- #10 ranked team plays 4th highest ranked conference champ for rights to 10 seed
- #11 plays #14 for 11 seed
- #12 plays #13 for 12 seed
The good part about this is they can still honor the G5 entries without putting them in over teams we know are better. Make them legitimately earn their spot in the playoffs. This is the best way I can see expanding it out enough to cover teams that have any argument of getting in. I know it won’t happen at least not this year, but it would be interesting to see if they did.
12 teams is enough, even with a small conference winner thrown in.

We could send their ADs a brick of cheese each and tell them it goes well with their whine/wine
@shooter Yes, I like the 12 team playoff just as it is. Of course they will screw it up then.
@olympian97 No sympathy for those teams. They need to win more.
We wouldn't have gotten in last year with two losses. In fact, the SEC shills were moaning about us getting in with just one loss.
Keep it 12 teams. Same parameters to get in.
No AP or Coaches Polls rankings until week 5-6.
Use some sort of BCS computer ranking from week 8-9 on, to rank the teams. (no more human committee)
Start the CFP the week after Conf Championships. (Campus games this year December 13)
Elite 8 rounds the following week. (This year December 20)
Final 4 rounds the week after. (This year December 27)
Natty Game the week after. (This year January 3)
Portal is open January 10-20.
Stealing from the Texas Tech coach... high school runs their playoffs in successive weeks. NFL runs most of their playoffs, until the Superbowl, in successive weeks. I believe FCS runs in successive weeks. FBS doesn't need the stupid downtime. Have all bowl games whatever weekend is between Christmas and New Year's.
Leave it at 12. If it goes to 16 hell in 3 years they'll be screaming for 32. Whiners!!!
Me, my phone I don't know what but I find it damn near impossible to establish my thoughts on a post using the pop up characters on the left from thumbs down to hilarious. ??
