I’ve only been following IU sports since 2001/2002 and this is surreal for me. I cannot imagine the joy this season has brought the guys I met on the old boards including @mark-milton @univee2 Townsend (does he post here or anywhere?), @myteamisonthefloor, ovaltine, etc.
We all deserve it, but you all in particular. I’m bummed my grandfather, a longtime Hoosier donor and ‘41 alumni, wasn’t around to see this, but I know he is watching from above.
@myteamisonthefloor hey man great to see here. I'm sorry I missed when you joined, and thanks for posting here
BEAT PURDUE
@jdb But look on the bright side. He got to enjoy 1945 (9-0-1 and Big Ten champs) and 1967 (co-Big Ten Champs and Rose Bowl team). Those were two exceptional seasons.

I think he was still overseas for most of ‘45 and probably distracted by other things to appreciate the football success.
i don’t remember him talking much about the ‘67 season, but im sure he attended a few games since my aunt and uncle were at IU during that time.
I saw the first game at Memorial Stadium in 1960, against Marquette, of all schools. Only game we won, during a 1-8 season. (I don’t think Coach Cignetti was even alive then. Isn’t he 64?)
Needless to say, the emotions have been wild. My IU flag now flies proudly, amongst all the heathen osu knuckleheads in the area. (After Knight was fired I swore the flag would not fly until we won another NCAA championship or we beat osu in football.) A lot of dust keeps getting in my eyes when I think about all of this and/or when Mendoza just does or says something Mendozaesque.
Can anyone here play this game?

I just bought a 1960/61 Indiana yearbook for $1 on an online auction. Tough season for the boys but it was really cool to look at.
It is hard to believe. The sudden turnaround has been overwhelming.
I went to East Lansing for an away game the year Indiana had a shot at the lead in the conference. MSU featured Percy Snow and Lorenzo White was the tailback and IU came up short. Was that 88 maybe? Then going into the 93 season Indiana's defense was quite good with guys like Mike Middleton and Hurvin McCormack, and I was (for a short while) hopeful they might compete at the top of the league.
And then there was the terrible news of Coach Hoepp's health decline and the understanding that what seemed like a new upstart team was going to fall right back down to where they were before. Watching Bill Lynch coaching that team just made me think there would never be a chance for IU to ever compete at the top.
And I watched Cig at the basketball game momentum and tell everyone that a new sheriff was in town, and it was pretty remarkable, but like everyone else, I just thought, no he will probably find out soon how tough it is to win here.
But now here we are and its been spectacular. Other worldly.
