Any Michigan recruits we can pick off?

OSU site likes these two, who we should also covet:

1. Carter Meadows

Five-star defensive lineman Carter Meadows should be Ryan Day's first call. He was being heavily recruited by Larry Johnson and the Ohio State Buckeyes before he decided to sign with Michigan. With Moore being let go, Johnson should give Meadows another call.

Meadows is rated as the sixth-best player in the country for the 2026 class. Bringing him in would be a massive victory that was unexpected just a few days ago. Meadows is good enough to play right away, especially with Ohio State losing so many defensive linemen next season.

2. Savion Hiter

The other recruit that Ohio State should look at bringing in is Savion Hiter. Hiter is listed as the top running back in the 2026 class, and is someone the Buckeyes recruited hard until the very end. He ended up signing with TTUN, but Ohio State has a need at running back in this class.

Bringing Hiter into the running back room would give Ohio State a lot of options heading into next season, with Bo Jackson still the incumbent starter. Adding a dynamic playmaker like Hiter from the running back position would really give Day a home-run threat.

These are the two recruits that Ohio State should target if they decide they want to leave. Recruits have a 30-day period to leave a program once a coach has been fired. Of course, these recruits could also leave once the transfer portal window opens in January.

I think the coaches are focusing on the portal.

Personally, I'd love to pull in Travis Johnson, who did official with us in the spring, but I think that ship has sailed.

Those guys will want a lot of NIL, I would rather we get portal guys than get in a bidding war with OSU / Oregon / Texas

Most are, but some guys just want to be on a winner.

Supposedly Mendoza took a lot less than the top bids, to play at Indiana.

Thx for sharing.  Appears to be a great decision.  Go Hoosiers!

@openwheel What I had heard/read somewhere, was committing as quickly as he did to Indiana, likely cost him quite a lot of money.  It wasn't that Indiana was being outbid, at the time he committed, it was that if he had held out, he likely would have gotten a number of higher offers.  Who knows.  Worked out well for him, though.  Heisman will be a financial windfall, and obviously priceless in many ways.  And he'll likely be a top 5-10 pick in the upcoming draft, and playing for Shanahan, and Cig, helped him immensely on that front.

I doubt Mendoza's experiences equates to IU immediately getting in with Top 2-3 HS QBs.  But I would suspect whoever the top 2-3 portal QBs are, will give IU a look if our staff is interested in them.

@iunorth

There's an interview with Mendoza, I think this fall after his name was rising, whether the 'Florida school' rumor of a lot more than what IU offered, was true.

Maybe I'm remembering wrong but it seemed like he basically said yes the rumor was true. So I wonder if it happened in the spring portal when rumors of some schools still tampering with QBs offering huge numbers was going around. He probably knew it was smarter to stay with his committment and not restart.
