I hate this. Sooner or later HS QBs will quit signing with Cig if he doesn't eventually start them.
Cig knows much more than I do about football, and his success cannot be questioned. But human nature looks at patterns; his is pretty clear for QBs. You think other schools don't notice and recruit accordingly?

I get the thought process, but I wouldn't overthink it. Cignetti is a great talent evaluator and doesn't allow his emotions to cloud his decision making. IU has always made emotional (and dumb) decisions in both bball and fball.
Cigs #1 job is to put the best team possible, out on the field. If he had more concerns and/or thought Alberto had a lower ceiling than Josh, you just go and get Josh. I think the days of growing QB's organically aren't going to be as much commonplace for the top teams as they have in the past. Yes, sometimes you'll get a guy and can tell he's special so you roll with him but Indiana is at a place now where we can compete for the best most experienced QB, every year. Look at Oregon, they just take transfers for starters and for backup/future starters. How do they recruit HS QB's? We have to think like the alpha dog now.

Exactly. Unless and until the transfer rules change, this is the reality. The minute Hoover committed / signed, Alberto was gone. They wanted him to stay but everyone knew it was Hoover’s job to lose. AM is going to a good program that will help him and is already working to accommodate his family. And Hoover will have a chance to flourish in an offense designed to maximize his abilities.
We haven't had much luck getting the top HS recruits in QB yet either. But Cig and staff will do that. Only a couple full cycles. So I'm sure once in awhile we will get a stud who wins the job.
Cig thinks Hoover is better than Alberto. Since Alberto looks likely to be pretty good, it is frustrating to lose him, and Cig is likely disappointed too. But he has to go with his analysis.
I agree it does matter if HS recruits think they have a legit shot or not. If you never get to play, there will always be guys playing somewhere who seem better. They have the vaunted 'game experience'.

The game has changed and Cignetti is playing it better than anyone else.
One of his mantras is production over potential. If he’s got a need at a position, and he sees a guy who has already played that position at a high level in college, he’s gonna grab him.
Amazing that Alberto was able to review the facilities, talked with the coaches about his role, came to an agreement on NIL. All in the first 30 minutes of being in the portal. Must have been AI assisted.

I think this was decided several weeks ago when CCC had talks with all the players (think he said 95%) after the BIG championship game.
I thought something was up when AM did not mop up the Oregon blowout.
If I am right I give a lot of respect to AM for finishing out the season.

GT's offense will allow him to use his athleticism. I'm bummed he's leaving, but it seems like a great spot for him. If AM is used like Haynes King was, he's going to be bussssy.

Have to believe Alberto was told he was welcome to stay but he was going to be slotted at #2 this Spring and it would be up to him to change that. I hate to see him leave, but he had implied a year ago that he expected to play behind Fernando this year and then take the reins... and if that didn't happen he'd do what was best for him. I don't like it, but that's how it works today. There's nothing that says he can't tear it up at GT and then come back. Stranger things have happened.

We recruited and signed AJ Harris without him stepping on campus, so this isn't unprecedented.
Forgot who do we have behind Hoover? Feel bad for AM but also remember same deal for Tayvan Jackson, looked good enough but I’m not a top level evaluator for an emerging ( are we still emerging?) superpower team
With the money to be made if Alberto wins the GT starting job, he cant afford to play here. He has to make bank during his college career. Strike while the iron is hot. Sorby left for supposedly 250k, and some laughed Cincy was overpaying. But then quickly got well over a million, then over four million.
Unless we were offering Alberto 500k+ per year to be the backup? Then it could make sense to stay. If he strikes out at GT oh well, but he has to find out. Cig doesnt think he is high end enough for us. And for Indiana, Ill trust Cig.
Ill enjoy watching GT though. I think Alberto will play well for them.

Yeah, I hope he wins the job there. Do we know anything about his competition for the job? With the money to be made if Alberto wins the GT starting job, he cant afford to play here. That OC is now at Florida.
