I think Bostad is sometimes overlooked in the IU success story. CCC had the good sense to retain him when he (Cig) was hired; Bostad is the lone holdover from Tom Allen's staff.
IU's rushing offense is 11th nationally and tops in the Big Ten. We're Top 20 nationally in tackles for loss allowed, and statistically solid in sacks allowed. Carter Smith was named Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year, the first IU player to ever win the award. IU was one of three finalists for the Joe Moore Award which recognizes college football's best offensive line.
Well done, Bob.
Without a doubt one of the smartest moves Coach Cignetti made was retaining Coach Bostad
@big-ryan - Cig even knew the right coach to keep around. The guy simply doesn't miss. Bostad is another important piece to this whole puzzle. IU had to do a LOT right in order for something as miraculous as this, to happen. Bostad is 100% a key cog and I hope he's reaping the rewards.
Indubitably!
Double DITTO the above.
I agree...
Hopefully we're keeping a close eye on who might be attempting to make a run at him... He's earned whatever it takes to keep him here...

I imagine within two to three minutes of talking with Bob, Cig knew he was a keeper.
I remember Chance Warmack of the Titans ripping on Bostad. Grabbed his quote from an ESPN page:
I had one dude (coach) who played D-III football at linebacker. And he's teaching me how to play offensive line? If there's nothing wrong with that, you tell me. I play offensive line. I don't play linebacker. I definitely didn't play D-III football. Not knocking D-III schools out there. We're talking about the highest level of football in the world. And you have a guy who has never put his hand in the dirt teaching me how to block. You don't think there's anything wrong with that? ...
Warmack washed out after his rookie contract pretty much, I think two one year deals with other teams. After being drafted 10th. Maybe Warmack should've been coachable by a guy that already had 20 years of coaching college and 3-4 years of coaching line in the NFL...
I saw comments from a lineman that were glowing, said the best coach he ever had. I can't remember who now, but at the time I noticed he had a longer NFL career post Bostad than Warmack did... lol .
Rick Wagner, Ravens, Titans, Green Bay, knew Bostad from Wisconsin. Drafted 5th round by Ravens, the same draft Warmack was drafted 1st round.
Unlike Warmack, Wagner got a very lucrative second contract (Titans) and played a lot of games. And got a decent 2 year final deal with Green Bay where he started some playoff games. I guess maybe guys should listen to Bostad...

... “He’s the greatest coach I ever had,” Wagner said. ... Wagner believed it is Bostad’s attention to detail and exacting standards that separates him from other coaches, as well as his ability to teach. “The way he coached, every detail was magnified,” Wagner said. “On the offensive line that is so important because if you are off by an inch, that could screw up the whole play.
“He transformed me.”
I am glad we have Bostad! Good call Coach Cignetti. (And Tom Allen.)

Ricky Wagner was a walk on tight end at Wisconsin who Bostad turned into a multiyear college and pro starter.
@openwheel I suspect Bostad was trying to get Warmack to tighten up foundational, "little", things. And Warmack thought he was above that.
