Believe Mendoza could get $8m but I've seen enough of TS to know he's too inconsistent for even a strong $3m.  He should have made the Alabama talent shine bright.  What the hell good is he without that talent?

The QB can’t fabricate a run game. I was actually impressed with what he was able to do without any run game and also the fact that teams were game planning knowing they didn’t have a run game. Simpson looked quite impressive to me based on how much he was relied upon to throw the ball. Put him in a more balanced offense with a better OL and I think he would be very good just like Fernando Mendoza. I don’t agree with Ty’s decision to go pro. He needs another year in college.

I was listening to a "legit" podcast, and I heard that Miami offered Ty Simpson $6M+ to play there next year. Wtf? If he's worth that, Mendoza would be worth $8M on the open market.

The Portal/NIL is out of control.

Teams are competing to simply buy themselves a trophy by buying an all-star team.

@hoosier-clarion Thought their backup looked really solid when he came in. Assuming he has additional eligibility, but they should still be in good hands!

@hoosier-clarion I think he made a smart move. Sounds like he's going to be the 2nd or 3rd QB drafted possibly, and I doubt he'd have been in that position next year.

I could barely remember what Ty Simpson did in the Rose Bowl game. He was entirely forgettable.

Seems like a mistake to me, passing up $3+ million for something speculative.

People are talking 1st round. Which amazes me but I only watched a few of their games this year and not that closely. If he is going first round I guess he makes it back. I'm not sure how much is guaranteed though.

@kkott I was texting with a good buddy that is a Nebraska native/super fan during the game (he loves our success)...we both agree Mack looks like a future star.  Only a soph.

So I guess IU will be looking for another QB. Maybe this can be a situation where it's potential over production? A somewhat highly rated sophomore/Junior that is buried under multiple people someplace else?

I'm sure they will try and grab another QB now. It will be very interesting who they get.

@mrhighlife I am not sure Cig is ever going to take potential over production, especially not in a backup who could become your starter after 1 play. He'll find someone who has been at least a part time starter or solid backup somewhere. If they really did like Alberto, then they may try and lure him back even. Maybe Cherry is progressing along, and they felt that he might jump Alberto and there's our 3rd QB and someone who has potential and a lot of eligibility. If that's the case, then I'd imagine another 1 or 2 year guy.

Also, I'd forewarn folks not to jump to conclusions or get too worked up about stuff. As an example, if I'm Becker's agent, he's portaling. Not because he wants to leave but to establish his market value. That dude is a star. I've thought since maybe Penn St he could lead the conference in receiving next year. Getting Nick Marsh and possibly Cooper back (guessing he leaves) impacts that, but that size, his speed, route running and those silky hands make him the best NFL prospect we have and I think he'll be a top 3 receiver whenever he does come out.

with the announcement that Wilson is returning I don’t see them going after another QB. That’s unless someone else leaves. They will have 4 QBs on scholarship next year assuming Cherry and Bell both return. Although not impossible it’s hard to see them getting a backup that is better than what we already have and it seems like 4 is usually the magic # of scholarship QBs.

I think there is a chance he goes to the draft. His stock isnt going to get any higher. However UT could back up the truck for him.

are you talking about Charlie?  He’s just a true sophomore, if so.

yeah sorry, I didn't mean someone completely devoid of experience. But I also didn't realize Grant Wilson was coming back. We might be ok in the QB room then...

Updated the portal tracker as redshirt freshman Evan Lawrence (offensive tackle) has entered the portal. This appears to be further confirmation that Carter Smith will be returning for his senior season and we think Ajani will be the starting right tackle. Will guys like Baylor Wilkin, Matt Marek or incoming freshmen Benjamin Novak or Kenton Mondeau be ready to step in at left tackle after Smith leaves? In Bostad we trust!
