Rivals just updated their crystal ball on Sales, Michigan is separating from the pack as the leader. Must be nice to have the 2nd richest man in the world, who is not an alum, financing your team. I just dont get it though, why would any WR play for Michigan? Moore doesnt believe in the forward pass. Even when Harbaugh was HC their 5* receivers like Peoples-jones and Nico Collins put up pitiful production and cost them huge in the draft.

Between Monshun and Raylaun it looks like we will not be getting a 5* in the 2027 class now. Hopefully we are able to convert our historic on-field success to a big class, just nuts to me we arent getting more big time interest. Also shout out to EJ Williams and Louis Moore who have been helping recruiting efforts on social media in recent days

It has to be NIL that is holding IU back because there aren’t five coaches in the country better than Cignetti.

@hoosierdaddy @iugradman There are 33 5-star prospects in the 2026 class. That is an absurdly low percentage of players that are ranked that high, so getting one is extremely rare.

I will not say IU is "behind" in NIL until I actually have a fact that says they are behind. They may not put all their NIL into one player or have a Dave Portnoy financing recruitments of 5-stars, but until I know facts on numbers I don't think NIL investment is an issue.

So...why would a 5-star (Sales), not come to IU?

Great question:

1. Path to the NFL. While IU has had some outstanding receivers under Cignetti and past coaches, the success at the next level has been fleeting. Myles Price and Ke'Shaun Williams being successful should help.

2. How IU spends NIL money. IU doesn't have Texas Tech Oil money, but they have enough to compete for titles. Cig has a philosophy of production over potential and the Portal can cover up holes in recruiting. Until the transfer climate changes, it's better to have a more mature team than one or two highly-rated HS kids. In an ideal world you can do both. For argument's sake let's sale Sales has a $1 million price tag, would you rather him or a package of transfers of guys like Wyatt, Daley and Wheeler?

3. Maybe he just wants to leave the state?

He was wearing IU gloves the other night and there is still plenty of time for IU to make up ground. Crystal Ball projections aren't gospel.

I get 5*s are going for a lot, but I think Sales would be worth it. It would not only fill a need (large outside receiver) but would also give IU more credibility as a staying power (landing same tier recruits as a big boy program)

Proven production means everything for next seasons + results.  In another 2 years we'll have fewer instate recruiting disappointments.

It would be interesting to know IU’s 2026 roster budget (a general estimate of course).  I’m sure it’s an increase from 2025, just curious how much.

Maybe some numbers will leak next year.

@thehoosierhuddle  Great article on the flip targets. For the 2026, Cantal and Keys would be nice additions to the class. The geography of the 2027 recruits is interesting, huge focus on the recruiting hotbed regions over the midwest

For 2028, glad to see we are getting a early jump on Weil, he has a good chance of being yet another blue chip WR from Indiana

Oddly worded. I’m guessing it’s just a visit?

@hoosierdaddy Yeah, makes you initially think he committed, but just a visit which is still very good.
