Indiana snapped a 4-game losing skid today through a more aggressive offensive attack, but the victory can ultimately be credited to the play of the defense. By bending without breaking and forcing takeaways, Tom Allen’s young defense was able to secure an elusive fifth win, 34-32 over Maryland.

Hoosiers Rally For 34-32 Win Against Maryland

Winter came early to Bloomington as a fresh dusting of snow covered the field early Saturday morning before turning into a crisp, cold sun-splashed afternoon.  A sparse crowd of 35,264 braved the sub-freezing temperatures saw the Indiana Hoosiers (5-5, 2-5) jump out to a 31-15 lead halfway through the third quarter only to need a late field goal by Logan Justus and a fumble recovery from Nile Sykes to seal a 34-32 win over the Terrapins and keep their bowl hopes alive.

Week Eleven Primer – Maryland Terrapins

What: Indiana Hoosiers (4-5) vs. Maryland Terrapins (5-4)

Where: Memorial Stadium

When: Saturday, November 10 at noon

How to Watch: The game will be broadcast on BTN. You can also listen to the legendary Don Fischer on the radio on any IU Radio Network station.

What’s at Stake: Indiana is currently stuck in the depths of a four-game losing streak and they desperately need a victory to bring some positivity back to the program. Closing the season by losing seven straight games is a nightmarish way to enter the offseason. In addition, if the Hoosiers are to keep any hope of a bowl game in 2018, they must win on Saturday. They won’t be winning next weekend at Michigan but Purdue is still a winnable contest (the Boilers look like the much better side but you just never know). On the other side, the Maryland Terrapins are just one win from bowl eligibility and this is the first of three cracks they’ll have to get that sixth victory. With their final two games against Ohio State and at Penn State, this will serve as their best shot at reaching a bowl game.

Matchup to Watch: IU Defense vs Maryland Running Game

Maryland (5-4, 3-3) is one win away from bowl eligibility, and its three remaining opponents are Indiana, No. 8 Ohio State and No. 13 Penn State. The Terrapins are going to do everything they can to leave Bloomington with a win because if they don’t it is likely they will not get a chance to go bowling. Both programs are in need of a win for a bowl, and how the IU defense handles Maryland’s running game could be the deciding factor in the game.
