The Indiana Hoosiers travel to the ‘Big House’ this weekend to take on the Michigan Wolverines, who are coming off of a win over Penn State. Wolverine head coach Kyle Whittingham met with the media on Monday. Here is what he said about the Hoosiers.
On the Indiana Offense:
“They’re a good football team. I’ll just say they have all my respect. Coach Cignetti’s done a
phenomenal job there. They’re doing so many good things. They’re very balanced with their offense, running the ball for over 200 a game. and the fact the line of scrimmage they’re very veteran on both sides. Ton of fifth year players on the offensive line as well as the defensive line and they’re doing it exactly how we want to do it. You know, running the ball 210 plus a game, giving up only 75 yards a game with their defense rushing, taking care of the football. They’ve got an amazing stat. It’s 30 31 straight games, they have not lost the turnover margin. 31 straight games. I mean, I can’t even. It’s longest streak in 30 years from what I understand. And so, you’ve heard me talk about it ad nauseium about the turnover margin and and you talk about why they’ve won more games over the last two and a half years than anyone in the country. That’s a big reason right there.”
On Indiana Not Beating Themselves:
“Like I said, they’ve gone, that’s incredible to go 31 or 30 games or whatever it is, without losing the turnover margin. I mean, you just don’t hear that. And so, and you haven’t heard of it for 30 years. I mean, that’s how impressive it is. So, yeah, it makes it makes it all the more mportant. And as my opening in my opening, they don’t they do not beat themselves. They they do a great job of eliminating bad football and playing solid across the board. They’ve blocked 10 kicks in the last two and a half years, which leads the country as well. So, their special teams are right in line with what they’re doing offensively and defensively. They’ve got a tremendous punt returner, the big receiver, that’s so talented. The running backs are probably the best, well, I don’t think, probably they are the best backs we’ll have seen this year. One of them returns kickoffs as well. So, they got a lot going for them. They really do.”
