Indiana Volleyball Overcomes Errors to Top Coastal Carolina in Four Sets

Indiana Volleyball traveled to Conway, South Carolina, to take on Coastal Carolina in the opening game of the Chanticleer Classic. A dominant performance by outside hitter Jaidyn Jager carried the Hoosiers to a four-set (25-14, 25-18, 21-25, 25-15) victory over the Chanticleers. The Hoosiers have moved to 6-2 overall and will face NC State on Saturday. They will begin Big Ten play next week against UCLA.

Indiana controlled the pace Friday night, beginning in the first set. As a team, the Hoosiers led the set in kills with 15 and just one attack error. Coastal Carolina was held to just eight kills and forced to three attack errors. Indiana’s impressive .636 hitting percentage led them to a 25-14 victory in the opening set.

A service error by Coastal Carolina’s libero Abby Bucey gave Indiana the first points of the second set, followed by another Chanticleer attack error by Natalie Hughs. The Hoosiers went on to record 12 kills against three errors, hitting .391 in the frame.

In the third set, unforced errors plagued Indiana’s sideline. As a team, they recorded 13 kills, but nine errors dragged their hitting percentage down to just .091. The Hoosiers ended the match with 34 total errors, 18 of which came from the end line. Errors kept Coastal Carolina breathing and allowed them to secure the third set in a 25-21 win.

The Hoosiers seemed to wake up in the fourth set and limited their errors to four. They totaled 19 kills, recording an impressive .417 hitting percentage. Indiana took home the fourth and final set with a 25-15 victory. As a team, the Hoosiers finished the night with 59 kills and held Coastal Carolina to just 32. Indiana’s 12 aces mark the most aces the program has had in one match since Nov. 24, 2023.

Jager led the Hoosiers with 18 kills. Kiki Granberry followed, recording 13 kills, one shy of her career record. Granberry hit .478, while Jager hit .381. Indiana setter Teodora Krickovic totaled 46 assists, three digs, five kills, and a career-high of four aces. Three Hoosiers had double-digit kills, including Jager, Granberry, and Sara Snowbarger. Indiana libero Hannah Leftridge also recorded 21 digs, two aces, and two assists.

Everyone played a part in Indiana’s win over Coastal Carolina, and with a mountain of errors against them, they were forced to stay calm and control the pace.

The Hoosiers will face NC State in the Chanticleer Classic on Saturday at 2 p.m., and they will look to secure one more win before heading into conference play.
