The Big Ten took it on the chin this week, going 2-6 in games against other Power 4 conferences. Let’s take a look at how the opponents on IU’s schedule fared this week.
Overall Opponent Record Remaining Schedule: 13-7 (.650)
Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (0-2) Last Week: Loss 70-20 at Georgia
The Hilltoppers got pounded again on the road, this time by Georgia. The schedule does not get easier with a third straight road game.
Up Next: at Indiana Sept. 19
Northwestern Wildcats (1-0) Last Week: BYE
The Wildcats had an early bye week and now will play 11 straight games starting with Colorado on Saturday.
Up Next: vs. Colorado Sept 19
Rutgers Scarlet Knights (0-2) Last Week: Loss 28-21 at. Boston College
It was a slightly better performance against Boston College, but the Scarlet Knights could not get the road win. KJ Duff remains a stud, but the season is already off the rails. No. 14 USC comes to town this week.
Up Next: vs. No. 14 USC Sept. 19
Nebraska Cornhuskers (2-0) Last Week: Win 56-7 vs. Bowling Green
It was a crisp, clean victory for Nebraska against G6 bottom-feeder Bowling Green. The Huskers round out their non-conference schedule with FCS North Dakota next week.
Up Next: vs. North Dakota Sept. 19
No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes (1-1) Last Week: Loss 24-23 at No. 4 Texas
For 45 minutes, it looked like the Buckeyes were going to walk out of Austin with a very impressive win. Then Texas erased a 20-point fourth-quarter deficit.
Up Next: vs. Kent State
Michigan Wolverines (2-0) Last Week: Win 17-10 vs. No. 11 Oklahoma
Michigan proved their defense is for real and can be a reason they can pull out low-scoring games. The overreaction to their week one performance made a lot of people look silly.
Up Next: vs. UTEP Sept. 19
Minnesota Golden Gophers (1-1) Last Week: Loss 38-13 vs. Mississippi State
Minnesota fell on their face as Mississippi State blew the Gophers out at home. There will be questions about what this team’s ceiling is.
Up Next: vs. Akron Sept. 19
No. 14 USC Trojans (3-0): Last Week Win 49-30 vs. Louisiana
The score is probably not what the Trojans were looking for, but USC continues to steamroll people on offense. A trip east to Rutgers should be a win, but a test against the body clock.
Up Next: at. Rutgers Sept. 19
Washington Huskies (2-0) Last Week: Win 16-14 vs. Utah State
Washington held on to beat Utah State as the offense continues to struggle. However, the UW defense is very good.
Up Next: vs. Eastern Washington Sept. 19
Purdue Boilermakers (1-1) Last Week: Loss 38-36 vs. Wake Forest
The losing streak against Power Four competition continues for Purdue. They had a shot to win, but allowed a touchdown on 4th and 15 in OT. Next up is a trip out west to face an improved UCLA squad for an 11pm ET kickoff.
Up Next: at UCLA Sept. 19
Previous Opponents: 2-3 (.400)
North Texas Mean Green (1-1) Last Week: Win 44-6 vs. UNLV
The Mean Green bounced back and looked good doing so in a dominant win over the Rebels.
Up Next: at. Texas State Sept. 19
Howard Bison (1-2) Last Week: Loss 55-0 vs. Indiana
We all saw this unfold in front of our eyes.
