NASHVILLE, Tenn. – On a national stage in the Music City, the Indiana volleyball team (2-2, 0-0 B1G) couldn’t find a way to hold onto early leads in any of the three sets. 22nd-ranked Tennessee overcame deficits of at least four points in all three games as it picked up a sweep (25-23, 25-23, 25-16) on Sunday (Sept. 6) afternoon at Bridgestone Arena.
A combination of Tennessee outside hitter Kennedi Rogers’ 19 kills and constant service pressure from the Lady Vols made it hard to maintain rhythm in the top-25 battle. The hosts found an important service run in all three sets to pull away late on each occasion. Tennessee ended up winning the offensive battle (.245-.179) behind 32 assists from setter Caroline Kerr.
Second-year outside hitter Jaidyn Jager reached double digits for the third-straight match with a team-best 10 kills. First-year outside hitter Sara Snowbarger followed behind her with seven of her own. Second-year setter Teodora Kričković recorded her second double-double in as many matches (24 assists, 12 digs).
IU will get a quick return to the court as it finishes up an early five-game road trip with a visit to Southern Indiana on Labor Day (Sept. 7) afternoon. First serve in Evansville is set for 4 p.m. from Liberty Arena. After the game with the Screaming Eagles, IU will finally return home to Wilkinson Hall for a match with Cal Poly on September 10th.
Notes to Know
• Indiana finished the week with a 2-1 record against three of the top six SEC programs in this year’s conference preseason poll. Two of the three sets on Sunday afternoon finished in deuce games with the Hoosiers coming out on the losing side each time.
• Second-year outside hitter Jaidyn Jager reached double-digit kills for the 26th in her career and for the third consecutive match. Second-year setter Teodora Kričković provided the seventh double-double of her young collegiate tenure with 24 assists and 12 digs.
