Countdown to 2026 Indiana Football- 1 Day Amare Ferrell

Welcome to the final day of Hoosier Huddle’s annual Countdown to Kickoff! Today we highlight senior defensive back Amare Ferrell.

A four-star recruit out of high school, Ferrell helped lead the Columbia Tigers to a FHSAA Class 3A State Semifinals before committing to the Hoosiers over offers from Florida State, Tennessee, and Penn State. 

In his first season with the Hoosiers in 2023, Ferrell appeared in all 12 games. This included a season-high 7 tackles (all solo) against Rutgers. 

However, it was Ferrell’s sophomore season when the Florida native truly began to break out. Finding himself as an integral part of Bryant Haines’ new-look defense, Ferrell started all 13 games and immediately began to make an impact, grabbing his first career interception in the season opener against FIU. Ferrell followed this up with a two-interception game against Michigan State. 

As a Junior in 2025, Ferrell continued to be a mainstay in the Hoosiers’ secondary. Ferrell started 15 of Indiana’s 16 games (he didn’t start the Peach Bowl after getting injured on the opening kickoff but returned and played the rest of the game). Ferrell continued his streak of interceptions in the season opener after grabbing one against Old Dominion. Ferrell was a key contributor throughout the postseason, totalling 10 tackles on IU’s Historic National Championship run. This performance earned him second-team All-Big Ten honors from the media.

Heading into 2026, Ferrell’s veteran presence will be critical as the Hoosiers attempt to defend their National Championship this season. As the September 5th matchup against North Texas approaches, Ferrell will look to continue his streak of hauling in an interception in the season opener as he has for the past two seasons.
