Indiana Volleyball Seeks Growth Following Straight-Set Sweeps Against Louisville

Inside L&N Federal Credit Union Arena, Indiana Volleyball stepped onto Louisville’s turf, and as they did, Cardinals fans filled every seat, each sounding clap enveloping the arena. It was a moment of beginning for the No. 16 Hoosiers as they hoped to secure their sixth top-10 victory in program history and the first against a non-conference opponent. However, the No. 7 Louisville Cardinals, alongside sophomore outside hitter Chloe Meester, had other plans. The Hoosiers struggled to find their footing in the final frame as Louisville closed out a 3-0 sweep Friday evening.

Indiana sophomore Jaidyn Jager and junior Ella Boersema led the Hoosiers in kills with seven. Last season, Jager tallied at least 10 kills in 23 matches, and today looked a little different for the sophomore. Both Jager and Boersema struggled to find their offensive rhythm, committing more attack errors than kills to finish with hitting percentages of -0.32 and -0.53, respectively.

With Indiana’s loss to Louisville, the Hoosiers will move to 0-1 on the season, and Louisville will move to 2-1. Louisville controlled the match from start to finish, allowing just four total lead changes and none in the final set.

Forced errors seemed to be Indiana’s downfall as they put up 22 errors compared to Louisville’s 11, resulting in a .043 hitting percentage over 26 kills. Louisville’s Outside Hitters Dominate Indiana

Louisville’s Chloe Meester and Chloe Chicoine combined for 21 kills with only five attacking errors. Meester seemed to be everywhere on the court, recording a .350 hitting percentage and becoming a key contributor to the Cardinals’ success. In the end, Meester and Chicoine tallied 13 points respectively for the Cardinals, ultimately allowing Louisville to run away with this one.

New Faces, Immediate Impact

Freshman outside hitter Sarah Snowbarger made her collegiate debut and tallied two kills, one dig, and two blocks as an outside hitter. She will be an exciting player to keep an eye on as the season continues. She marked the 12th-straight year that IU has started a freshman in the season opener.
