Countdown to 2026 Indiana Football: 13 Days – Quan Sanks

We slowly inch closer to Indiana kicking off against North Texas in the Hoosiers’ season opener on September 5th. As we run our countdown each day at Hoosier Huddle, we now line up at day 13, where we highlight Quan Sanks.

High School: Central (Alabama)

Year: 3rd

Position: Defensive Back

Previous School: Cincinnati

Sanks arrives in Bloomington for his first year in the cream and crimson after transferring from the University of Cincinnati during this portal season. He was rated as a 3-star transfer after also being rated as a 3-star recruit coming out of high school. Interestingly enough, he received offers out of high school from both Indiana and James Madison. I’m unsure which one (if not both) of those offers came from head coach Curt Cignetti and staff, as the timelines are a bit difficult to line up, but at least one of those offers came from the head honcho himself.

Despite the offer(s) from Cignetti, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Houston, Appalachian State, Marshall, Memphis, Southern Mississippi, Troy, Coastal Carolina, Jacksonville State, Liberty, Middle Tennessee, UAB, Alabama State, and Austin Peay, Sanks chose to attend Cincinnati. Looking through that offer list, Sanks was clearly desired. While for the most part power four schools did not come calling this time around, the best teams in the group of five certainly wanted his signature.

While at Cincinnati, he played in all 24 games for the Bearcats over his two seasons there, starting 12 of them. Sanks brings tenacity to the field along with a clear nose for the ball. Over those 24 games played in Cincinnati, he forced two fumbles and recovered two fumbles as well. He totaled 50 tackles last year and played a key role in the Bearcats defensive schemes.

For the Hoosiers, Sanks will bring experience along with that tenacity and nose for the ball to Indiana’s defensive back room. He likely slots into a backup role at either safety or rover and could easily be the first player off the bench should any of the starters (Ferrell, Zachman, Baldwin) not be able to play for whatever reason. Sanks faces stiff competition for that #2 spot, but should have the edge given his experience level. Even as the #2, Sanks will receive a bevy of snaps and will be given ample opportunity to make his mark on the season as the Hoosiers look to defend their crown.
