Insights and Observations From Day 2 of Indiana Fall Camp

The Indiana Hoosiers were back on the practice field for the second day in a row on Thursday. Today I focused on some of the defensive line drills and how the feel of practice differed from day one. Today’s report is a little light as I spent most of it talking about how the roster rules are shaping out.

Indiana Practice Basics

  • Practice was outside on the practice field and mainly on the grass side of it.
  • Players wore helmets, shorts and practice jerseys
  • The offensive line, especially the younger players have big frames. The line is probably deeper than last year and the body types are those of Big Ten linemen.

Indiana Practice Observations

  • The noise at practice was noticeably less than the first practice as players and coaches have settled into the routine.
  • I focused on the defensive line drills where they worked on hand-fighting skills, getting off blocks and some combination stunts and twists. There is no tackling, but it is still very physical.
  • IU again started with a scoring zone team period and moved into position drills where they worked on ball security, footwork and other skills.
