Indiana quarterback Josh Hoover has been named to the prestigious Maxwell Award Watch List. Hoover, a transfer from TCU, enters his first year with the Hoosiers after throwing for 9,629 yards and 71 touchdowns in his college career.
The Maxwell Award, established in 1937, is one of the most historic and respected honors in college football. Presented annually to the top player in the nation, the award recognizes athletes whose performance, leadership, and impact elevate both their program and the broader landscape of the sport. Over the decades, the Maxwell Award has been earned by players who helped define eras and shape the future of the game.
Indiana has had two players win the Maxwell Award. Running back Anthony Thompson won it in 1989 and quarterback Fernando Mendoza took home the honors in 2025 after leading Indiana to a national championship and a 16-0 record.
