Countdown to 2026 Indiana Football 38 Days – Kaden McConnell

We slowly inch closer to Indiana kicking off against North Texas in the Hoosiers’ season opener on September 5th. As we run our countdown each day at Hoosier Huddle, we now line up at day 38, where we highlight Kaden McConnell.

Hometown: Greenwood, Indiana

High School: Center Grove

Class: Redshirt Sophomore

Position: Linebacker

Kaden McConnell begins his third season in the Cream and Crimson after joining as a walk-on in 2024. He is an Indiana local, hailing from just 45 minutes away in Greenwood. He was a multi-sport athlete at Center Grove High School, excelling in football of course, but also lettering in wrestling.

After redshirting his first season in Bloomington, McConnell made his debut during Indiana’s 2025 National Championship-winning season. He appeared in three games this past season and will look to build on that total in 2026. McConnell is still listed as a walk-on and the linebacker room is loaded with talent, so McConnell’s role this season is likely centered around growing each day on the practice field, pushing his teammates to be their best through hard work and intentional effort, and making the most of the snaps he receives throughout the season. Walk-ons play a massive role towards a team’s success each season, and McConnell will certainly hold some of that responsibility. Even though it may not show up on the stat sheet, McConnell played a vital role in Indiana’s National Championship and will continue to do so throughout his Hoosier career.

In addition to helping the team on the field, McConnell was recognized as an Academic All-Big Ten performer in the classroom as well, further displaying his strong work ethic and drive.
