Stat Breakdown of Indiana’s Golden Performance in Lima, Peru

Indiana represented the USA in the FISU Tournament and took home the gold medal earlier today. In this tournament, Indiana won each game by an average of 61.25 points. Needless to say, the competition wasn’t elite in this tournament, but Indiana still flashed some things for Hoosier fans to get excited about.

One player who stood out was Prince-Alexander Moody. In the first game against Peru, he had 17 points, three rebounds, and three assists. In game two, he had 14 points, four rebounds, and three assists. In game three, he flexed his playmaking skills with eight assists. Then, in game four, he had 12 points, two rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and two steals. Moody plays great defense and understands the game at a very high level. He will be a key contributor to the Indiana roster.

Aiden Sherrell won tournament MVP. He was a consistent and dominant force that opponents couldn’t size up with all tournament. He really flexed this in game one with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and two blocks. Sherrell will likely be the most important player for this Indiana Hoosiers team.

Vaughn Karvala had the best individual game performance of anyone with his 32-point performance in game two. He couldn’t miss that game, and it seems that he will be a great heat-check player for Indiana this season.

One key statistic that can be analyzed despite the lack of competition would be the three-point line. Indiana was disappointingly inconsistent in this field throughout the tourney.

Indiana shot it 34 percent from three in game one, 43 percent in game 2, and 27 percent in game three. The stadium was unusual, but more consistency from the three-point line would be ideal for Indiana come the regular season. Indiana shot it 34 percent from three last season, which put them in the middle tier for three-point accuracy. A good improvement this season would be shooting it at 36 percent from three. That would slide them into the upper echelon of shooters.

Bryce Lindsay is one of the players who is thought of as an elite shooter for Indiana this season. He struggled from three in this tournament, shooting it 7-24 from deep. Lindsay is likely to balance out when the regular season comes, but this wasn’t a good showing for the Villanova transfer.

Jaedon Mustaf showed how he can be a great paint scorer and also an aggressive rebounder for the Hoosiers. He had 37 points and 26 rebounds throughout the tournament. His aggressiveness is going to be a key difference for this year’s Indiana squad.

Sam Alexis suited up for Indiana for the last time, and he still doesn’t miss shots. He went 18-22 from the field in this tournament. Alexis must’ve taught Trent Sisley something because Sisley shot 17-22 in the tournament. He will be a key depth piece to this Indiana roster in his sophomore season.

Trevor Manhertz had his best performance in the gold medal game. He scored 15 points and grabbed three rebounds.

Indiana didn’t have the best competition to face in this FISU tournament, but they still showed Hoosier fans why this team might be different from last year’s team. They also got to go to a different country and come back home with a gold medal.
