The Hoosier Huddle Countdown to Kickoff has officially passed the halfway mark. As Curt Cignetti and his staff prepare for their third season in Bloomington with championship aspirations once again at the forefront, Hoosier Huddle continues one of our favorite offseason traditions: the Countdown to Kickoff. Over the 100 days leading up to Indiana’s season opener, we’ll spotlight every player on the 2026 roster. Today, we turn our attention to one of the newest additions to the program, Kevontay Hugan.
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 227 pounds
Hometown: Sarasota, Florida
Class/Position: Freshman/Defensive Line
The top recruit from the Hoosiers’ 2026 high school recruiting class was Kevontay Hugan, joining what should be a stacked defensive line room this season. Hugan was a 247 Sports Composite 4-star recruit out of Booker High School, leading BHS to back-to-back Florida High School Athletic Association Class 3A State Final Four appearances. His senior season included 51 tackles with 32.0 tackles for loss and he also lettered in track and field. He ultimately chose Indiana over 27 other offers, including a flip in commitment from Louisville.

Hugan joined the program as a mid-year enrollee and went through spring practice, though there was a brief period where speculation arose that he had been dismissed from the program after his name and bio was removed from the official roster. The situation was confirmed by IU Officials as correct, but Hugan’s name eventually returned to the roster and he is expected to be a member of the team this season. Hugan will join a stacked defensive line room and will likely see playing time only as a reserve this season. He is an explosive athlete with a quick first step, perfect for the exotic fronts of a Bryant Haines defense. He will continue to add strength and weight, which should help his effectiveness at the Power Four level in the long term.
The countdown continues each day on Hoosier Huddle until the Hoosiers kick off the 2026 season against the North Texas Mean Green!
