Mikail Kamara was a star defensive lineman under head coach Curt Cignetti throughout his James Madison years and in his first two seasons at Indiana. Mikail blocked the punt in the national title game, helping Indiana defeat Miami and win its first title. His younger brother Amari Kamara was a true freshman on last year’s team and will now continue the Kamara legacy at Indiana.

Kamara decided to come to follow in his older brother’s footsteps and saw Indiana win the national championship in his freshman year. He didn’t see any playing time in year one, but will likely see his first snaps this season.
In high school, Kamara’s speed and football instincts helped him bolster Stone Bridge High School to a state title appearance. He recorded 104 stops and two sacks in his senior season. He also received the second-team all-district award for his talents.
At 5’11”, 202 pounds, Kamara measures in a bit undersized for the usual linebacker. This is a primary reason that he didn’t see the field in his true freshman season. He will need to continue to add some muscle to develop as a collegiate player.
The legacy at Indiana that Mikail Kamara has made will never be forgotten, especially since his blocked punt was such a crucial play in the title game. Amari will need to find a way to build his own legacy at Indiana, and that can start with meaningful minutes in his redshirt freshman season.
