Day 46 of the Hoosier Huddle Countdown to Kickoff features one of the best-known and highly regarded players on the 2026 Indiana football team, Isaiah “Bones” Jones.
Isaiah Jones
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 225 pounds
Hometown: London, Ohio/London
A holdover from the Tom Allen Era, Isaiah Jones is one of the key pieces in 2026 after a breakout season in 2025. Jones came to IU, alongside Kaiden Turner, to be the next great linebackers under Allen. While it did not happen the way it was envisioned, ‘Bones’ Jones has become an All-American caliber linebacker.
After playing in just four games under Allen in 2022 and 2023, Jones found his footing after Cignetti took over.
In 2024, Jones played in all 13 games and started twice for Indiana. He carved out a role as a reserve linebacker and a star on special teams. He made 42 tackles with 3.5 coming for loss.
2025 was the real breakout season for Jones. He was so good that Indiana changed their defense a bit to get him on the field with Aiden Fisher and Rolijah Hardy more often. He flourished as he made 78 tackles and had 15.5 tackles for loss, including seven sacks.
This season Jones will be looked to replace Fisher as a major leader on the defense and the player wearing the green dot (helmet communications). Jones is ready to step into the role.
“Leadership is not just about your words; it is about your actions. Those guys led by what they did, they led by example. You can go out there and say let’s have a tough, physical practice and everyone is working hard, but to actually go out there and do it, that is what those guys did. That is kind of what I learned: you can’t just be all talk; you have to walk the walk.” Jones said during the spring.
Jones is ready to walk the walk.
The countdown continues each day on Hoosier Huddle until IU kicks off the 2026 season against the North Texas Mean Green!
