The memories of IU’s unprecedented and historic unbeaten run to the National Championship are still fresh in our minds but the work is just beginning for the 2026-2027 Indiana Hoosiers. As Curt Cignetti and his staff gear up for year number three in Bloomington and embark on a quest to become repeat champs, Hoosier Huddle’s Countdown to Kickoff rolls on!

The historic turnaround of the Indiana University football program, quite possibly, exceeds anything seen in the modern era of sports. A turnaround of that magnitude is not accomplished by changing just one facet of the team. Rather, every single aspect of the program dramatically improved under the guidance of Curt Cignetti and his coaching staff. An area of the team that has improved as much as any is coached by the dynamic duo of Buddha Williams and Pat Kuntz and they have built one of the best defensive line rooms in the country.
Last season, IU allowed only 2.99 yards per carry and consistently harassed opposing quarterbacks. The “d-line” was a brick wall and loaded with stars. Stephen Daley, Mikail Kamara, Hosea Wheeler and Dominique Ratcliff exhausted their eligibility but the line returns Tyrique Tucker and Mario Landino in addition to a number of younger players while adding multiple impact transfers. One of those younger players that could be ready to begin stepping into a depth role is the focus of today’s countdown piece: redshirt freshman Jhrevious Hall.
Jhrevious Hall is a native of Columbia, Tennessee and he played for Columbia Central High School for head coach Tradarius Goff. Hall was a consensus three-star recruit that was ranked as a top-100 defensive lineman in his recruiting class. After being named the Region 5-5A Defensive Lineman of the Year for his work as a junior, Hall had 47 tackles with a whopping 17 tackles for loss and ten sacks as a senior. It was a step back from what he did as a junior but was still highly productive.
As part of a stacked defensive line room led by coaches Pat Kuntz and Buddha Williams, Jhrevious Hall did not see any game action and redshirted the 2025 season as the Indiana Hoosiers won the National Championship. The departure of interior linemen Dominique Ratcliff and Hosea Wheeler to graduation has left an opportunity on the depth chart at nose tackle.
Tyrique Tucker is undoubtedly the starter there and Mario Landino will start next to him. Combined, the duo should be one of the best pair of interior linemen in the entire country. Tulsa transfer Joe Hjelle was brought in and he’ll likely be the first second-stringer to see the field but that next spot is up for grabs and Jhrevious Hall is a prime candidate. Hall is heavier than all defensive linemen on the roster save Joe Hjelle and he projects as a true nose tackle in IU’s defense.
Hall’s highlight video from high school showed a player that fits the exact body type Pat Kuntz covets in his tackles. He’s stout with violent hands and he plays with outstanding leverage, often showcasing the ability to get under the offensive guard or center and move them back, disrupting the opposing offense right in the middle of the line.
Hall likely competes with guys like Kyler Garcia, Rodney White and Blake Smythe for snaps and he has the inside track on the backup nose tackle spot entering fall camp. Tucker and Hjelle will both be out of eligibility after this season so it will be critical for Hall to show that he can contribute now and gain the trust of the coaching staff to be a starter in 2027.
The countdown continues each day on Hoosier Huddle until IU kicks off the 2026 season against the North Texas Mean Green!
