The Hoosier Huddle Countdown to Kickoff is nearing the halfway point! As Curt Cignetti and his staff gear up for chapter three in Bloomington with another championship as the end goal, we at Hoosier Huddle continue with one of our favorite offseason content traditions, the countdown to kickoff. Over the 100 days leading up to opening kickoff, we will highlight each player from this season’s roster. Today, we’ll highlight a second-year player in the system, Jacob Bell.

Class/Position: Redshirt Freshman/Quarterback
Jacob Bell enters his second season in the Curt Cignetti quarterback room this year after redshirting his initial season on campus. Bell joined the Hoosiers as the only quarterback in the 2025 high school recruiting class; after passing on JuJu Lewis, Cignetti and his staff offered Bell and he committed within one day. He was a consensus three-star prospect and also had offers from Ball State, Arkansas State, Bowling Green, Marshall, and others. He was the Naperville Sun and Daily Herald Player of the Year in 2024 after completing 63 percent of his passes for 38 touchdowns with seven interceptions, including a single-game program record 7 touchdown passes in a double overtime victory his senior year. He comes from an athletic family, where his brother, Jon, also plays college football for South Dakota State.
Bell is a capable dual-threat quarterback who should be a strong member of the practice squad early in his career. With Fernando Mendoza and Josh Hoover as QB1s and Chandler Whitmer and Tino Sunseri as quarterback coaches in his first two years in college, Bell is learning from some of the best minds in the game.
