Add Hoosier Huddle to GoogleEntering his seventh season of college football, Preston Zachman comes to Bloomington with immense experience and skill at a position of need for the Hoosiers – safety. Zachman put together stellar seasons at the University of Wisconsin in 2023 and 2024, but besides those two years, Zachman was either redshirting or lost his season to an unfortunate injury. That is how his 2025 season ended after a blistering start to the campaign, recording two interceptions in the first three games of the season before his injury.
Zachman likely now arrives to this Indiana team with a chip on his shoulder, eager to prove he is still one of the best safeties in the Big Ten. In previous seasons, Zachman has received very strong PFF grades and consistently records strong interception and pass breakup numbers when healthy.

He is a 5-time Academic All-Big Ten student and made Phil Steele’s Preseason All-Big Ten Safeties list ahead of last season. Simply put, Zachman is a difference maker and will impact Bryant Haines’ defense heavily. Filling Louis Moore’s shoes is no easy task, but Zachman is one of the best candidates in the country to do just that.
