We slowly inch closer to Indiana kicking off against North Texas in the Hoosiers’ season opener on September 5th. As we run our countdown each day at Hoosier Huddle, we now line up at day 73, where we highlight Maverick Geske.

2026 Countdown To Kickoff: Day 73 – Maverick Geske

Height: 6’0”

Hometown: Indianapolis, Indiana

High School: Brebeuf Jesuit

Class: Redshirt Freshman

Position: Quarterback

Maverick Geske arrived to Bloomington as a walk-on, and boy could he not have picked a better time to enroll. Being a true freshman quarterback at a National Championship winning program where you just so happen to study film in the same room as the Heisman Trophy winner? I don’t think you can get a better experience than that. Fortunately, experience is likely exactly what Geske was looking for early on in his collegiate career.

As a recruit, he was ranked at 2-stars by 247 Sports Composite rankings and received a couple of FCS offers, but ultimately chose his hometown Indiana Hoosiers as a walk-on destination. Geske was a finalist for Indiana Mr. Football and earned several All-State/Conference/County recognitions as well during his successful high school career. He owns many passing records at Brebeuf Jesuit and actually finished top-5 nationally in passing during his final high school season, throwing for 4,039 yards.

Geske is another wonderful example of Coach Cignetti’s famous recruiting policy of focusing on production over “stars”, and Geske certainly brings significant production. Geske will enter the 2026 season in a role similar to 2025, focusing on absorbing information, learning around the best of the best, and improving each day to impact the team in the future.
