The Notre Dame to Indiana transfer pipeline continues, as defensive lineman Josh Burnham finalized his transfer to Bloomington in early 2026. He brings immense experience, grit, and high level skill to an Indiana defense that is hoping to repeat its historic highs of 2025/2026. Coming out of high school, Burnham was a 4-star recruit per 247 Sports Composite Rankings and received offers from all the big boys. Alabama, Michigan, Ohio State, and many others before committing to Notre Dame.
Burnham was successful in South Bend and became a mainstay on their strong defense. He redshirted his freshman season, but then played in nearly every game Notre Dame had for the next three seasons (including a standout performance against Ohio State in the National Championship). He then chose to enter the transfer portal, where he committed to your reigning National Champion Indiana Hoosiers.
Burnham was rated as a 3-star transfer per 247 Sports and projects to be a major cog in Indiana’s defensive line schemes. He is not afraid of the big moment (as illustrated in his National Championship performance with Notre Dame), has experience playing for a big time program, and brings the necessary athleticism to succeed in Bryant Haines’ defense (he was named to 247 Sports’ Freaks List as a high school recruit).
