Indiana Football has tough shoes to fill with tight end Riley Nowakowski moving on to the NFL. PJ Macfarlane will likely not be Indiana’s answer this season, but will be a depth piece that Indiana will turn to in the future.
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 205 pounds
Hometown: Liberty Township, Ohio
Class/Position: Freshman/ Tight End
The true freshman from Ohio saw plenty of high school accomplishments on his path to becoming a Hoosier. He earned first-team All-Greater Miami Conference as a junior and senior.
Rated as a top 50 player in Ohio and a top 30 tight end in the nation in the 2026 class, MacFarlane chose to take his talents to Indiana over Big Ten opponents Illinois and Northwestern, as well as Cincinnati and Duke.
MacFarlane has been consistent in his receiving game as a high school player, but will likely need to develop his blocking skills to see playing time on Curt Cignetti’s squad. Macfarlane is sitting at 205 pounds currently, and will now likely need to add 20 pounds of muscle in order to play collegiate ball. Cignetti expects his tight ends to be able to be excellent run blockers, while also providing a consistent receiving threat. The run blocking aspect will need to be developed.
It is unlikely that MacFarlane sees much playing time this season, but look for him to be part of the future of Indiana football.
