2026 Countdown to Indiana Football Kickoff: – 91 Days Blake Smythe
Rip off another page from your Indiana Football facts calendar (probably), the countdown to 2026 Indiana football rolls on with one of the more exciting freshmen in the 2026 class, Blake Smythe.
Blake Smythe
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 283 pounds
Hometown: Trafalgar, IN/Franklin Community
Class/Position: Freshman/DL
Blake Smythe may not have entered spring as one of the most talked-about freshman defensive linemen, but he made a lasting impression on people who saw practice. Smythe should be a familiar name as his grandfather Mark played, and played well, for the Hoosiers under Lee Corso.

The younger Smythe was part of the 2026 recruiting class and a top-20 player in Indiana. He collected a few accolades at Franklin Community High School as well. Smythe was named Indiana Football Coaches Association Class 5A All-State as a sophomore and junior, selected to the Indianapolis Star Central Indiana Super Team as a senior. He totaled 261 tackles, 52.0 tackles for loss, 20.0 sacks, three forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and two interceptions in his high school career.
Smythe had a great spring and is one of the true freshmen who could find the field for playing time early. In the IU spring game, he flashed his potential by making a few tackles and being in the rotation. His path to playing may follow that of Mario Landino.
The countdown continues each day on Hoosier Huddle until IU kicks off the 2026 season against the North Texas Mean Green!
