Countdown to 2026 Indiana Football- 92 Days Gabe Hill

Hoosier Huddle is excitedly counting down to kickoff, highlighting players weekly. Freshman defensive lineman Gabe Hill, a four-star recruit from Naperville, Illinois, joins a strong team. He excelled in high school with 141 tackles and 17 sacks. Initially, he may play a reserve role, especially in nonconference games.

We are over a week into the Hoosier Huddle countdown to kickoff! As Curt Cignetti and his staff gear up for chapter three in Bloomington with another championship as the end goal, we at Hoosier Huddle have one of our favorite offseason traditions. Over the 100 days leading up to opening kickoff, we will highlight each player on the roster. Today, we’ll touch on a new face in the locker room, Gabe Hill.

Height: 6’1”

Weight: 289 pounds

Hometown: Naperville, Illinois

Class/Position: Freshman/Defensive Line

Defensive line play was a clear strength of the 2025 Indiana Hoosiers team and it should be a similar story in 2026. A new addition to the position room will be Gabe Hill, a four-star freshman recruit out of Naperville North High School in Illinois. Hill was tabbed a top-200 recruit nationally by ESPN and Rivals/On3 and was named the Naperville Sun Player of the Year. In his high school career, Hill was quite disruptive along the line, totaling 141 career tackles, 52.0 tackles for loss, and 17.0 sacks. His senior season was the most productive, compiling 61 tackles, 22.0 tackles for loss, 6.0 sacks, and recovering two fumbles.

Hill enters a defensive line room that is pretty stacked. The way Cignetti values production, I’d expect his opening season with the Hoosiers to be utilized mostly in a reserve role, likely seeing his most playing time in the early nonconference games in cleanup fashion. He slots as a DT, but could see time as a nose tackle as well.

The countdown continues each day on Hoosier Huddle until the Hoosiers kick off the 2026 season against the North Texas Mean Green!
