IU to Play Syracuse at Gainbridge Fieldhouse

On March 11, 2026, the Indiana Hoosiers, led by coach Darian Devries, are set to face the Syracuse Orange at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. This matchup marks the first since the Hoosiers' 1987 championship victory. Syracuse, now under coach Gerry McNamara, seeks to improve after a disappointing 15-17 season.

Keith Smart nailing a baseline jumper with only seconds left to win the 1987 National Championship was the last time the Indiana Hoosiers defeated the Syracuse Orange in men’s basketball. Darian DeVries will try to change that as the two schools are reportedly scheduled to meet at Gainbridge Fieldhouse for a non-conference clash on November 9 (a Monday). Jon Rothstein had the news first.

Syracuse finished the 2025-2026 season with a record of just 15-17 and brought in new head coach Gerry McNamara to try and revitalize the program. Since this will be a neutral site game, it will probably end up in the Quad Two range and will be an important game for Darian DeVries to win as early season momentum for the program will be necessary.

Syracuse joins Kentucky and Bellarmine (November 5) as the three known opponents thus far for the 2026-2027 season.
