There was a sigh of relief in Bloomington as the Indiana Hoosiers (27-7. 7-2) got the final out of a 7-5 win over the Detroit Mercy Titans on Saturday. The Hoosiers fell behind 2-0 early as Taylor Hess could not get out of the first inning, and Brooke Mannon had to do the rescuing out of the bullpen again.

After Josie Bird cut the Titan lead in half, Detroit Mercy’s Wendy Ketola clubbed a solo home run to left field for a 3-1 lead. The Hoosiers scored two runs in each of the next three innings to push their lead to 7-2, but it was not a coast to the finish for IU.

The Titans plated two runs in the top of the seventh and put the go-ahead run on base before Mannon got Liv Peterson to ground out to second base.

The Hoosiers made several errors on the bases and had a runner thrown out at the plate on a first-and-third play. Hess struggled with command, walking two batters and hitting one. The defense also made an error.
