The Indiana Hoosiers spent the entirety of Darian DeVries’ first season in Bloomington with one open assistant coach spot. With IU’s season concluded, that spot has been filled as DeVries poached Thomas Carr from the Louisville Cardinals. Peegs’ Trevor Andershock had the story first and it has now been confirmed by multiple different outlets.

Carr spent the past four seasons with head coach Pat Kelsey, two at College of Charleston and two at Louisville. Prior to that, he worked under Kevin Keatts at North Carolina State and UNC-Wilmington. In between his work with Keatts and Kelsey, Carr was the Athletics Director at powerhouse high school Word of God Christian Academy in Raleigh, North Carolina. During that time, he was also the Director for premier AAU program Team Loaded in North Carolina.

He was a two-year captain at Pfeiffer University from 2006-2008 and was a prolific three-point shooter and then began his coaching career at Chipola College in 2009. He joined Kevin Keatts at Hargrave Military Academy, spent one season leading George Washington High School to a 25-3 record and then jumping to East Tennessee State as an assistant coach.

Carr helped transform the UNC-Wilmington, won big at College of Charleston and then helped Pat Kelsey build an entirely new roster at Louisville prior with no returning scholarship players. That roster orchestrated one of the best turnarounds in the country and Louisville followed that up with a trip back to the NCAA Tournament and a first-round victory this March.

The new staffer joins assistants Kenny Johnson, Rod Clark and Nick Norton and staffers Mike Bargen and Justin Bailey as the Hoosiers prepare for a massively important transfer portal cycle beginning April 7.
